As 4/20 is upons us, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/weedmaps">Weedmaps </a>(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MAPS#NASDAQ">MAPS</a>) has provided valuable insights to forecast a significant sales boost for the industry and a widespread celebration of marijuana. The data, derived from big data analysis of user activities on the platform, indicates that the previous year&#8217;s 4/20 was highly successful, with Weedmaps experiencing a twofold increase in normal operations.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Big Data, Big Deals</h2>
Weedmaps pointed out that consumers are prioritizing value, as the platform registered a 200% surge in orders that redeem deals through the platform during 4/20 week of 2023 compared to 2022.&nbsp;
Furthermore, the platform has observed a rising trend in usage, with deal claims increasing by 100% over 2022. This uptick is likely motivated by price reductions, as the costs for flowers, vape pens, and edibles have continued to decrease for the second consecutive year, showing declines of 15%, 14%, and 17% when compared to 2021.
Weemaps also shared that consumers will probably be expending even more in goods than years before, since the average order value surged to $96.22 in 2023, a 14% increase compared to an average Thursday in April of 2023. This is despite deflation.
Additionally, the quantity of orders expanded by an average of 25% in terms of items per basket on 4/20 of last year, in comparison to 2022.

<li>During the 4/20 retail week of 2023, vape pens witnessed a 29% growth over 2022, and an impressive 126% increase compared to 2020, with the largest demographic being Gen Z (31%).</li>

Unparalleled 4/20: Weedmaps Unveils Consumer Trends Ahead Of Cannabis Industry's Biggest Holiday

As you may have heard, cannabis consumption among older folks is on the rise. More specifically, seniors are one of the fastest-growing groups of <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/cannabis">cannabis users in the U.S. </a>
As it turns out, many older adults have been consuming weed for decades and new ones are joining in on the fun. Cannabis consumption among our parents and grandparents has quadrupled in the past eight years.

I've been smoking pot for the past four decades and I see no reason to stop getting high," said Cynthia P who recently retired as an ER nurse in Ohio where recreational marijuana <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/23/11/35664155/ohio-legalizes-cannabis-and-overwhelmingly-approves-abortion-rights">became legal</a> last November.
Scientists and researchers are wisely becoming interested in this Baby Boomer demographic of 77 million, many of whom are healthy, economically stable and have no plans of checking out anytime soon, so they say.
One particular<a href="https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fnagi.2022.804890/full" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">&nbsp;study</a>,&nbsp;that examined marijuana use in adults aged&nbsp;60 to 88 found that&nbsp;whole-plant cannabis did&nbsp;not harm&nbsp;cognition but rather the opposite.&nbsp;Older cannabis users, relative to non-users, had&nbsp;significantly greater neuronal communication between the cerebellum and hippocampus.
Why? Age-related changes in the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/22/07/28272841/the-endocannabinoid-system-101-the-basics-made-easy" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">endocannabinoid system</a>&nbsp;(ECS) include a decrease in the number of cannabinoid receptors throughout the brain.&nbsp;The ECS,&nbsp;a significant aspect of our human physiology that&nbsp;helps maintain homeostasis,&nbsp;is a complex cell-signaling system in the brain and body that interacts with just about all of our&nbsp;other body systems.&nbsp;
Which means? During normal aging, the decline in cannabinoid receptors correlates with increased levels of inflammation in these brain regions causing a loss of neurons in the hippocampus, which is critical for learning and&nbsp;memory.&nbsp;This, in short, explains age-related memory impairment.&nbsp;&nbsp;
"Oh, I believe that," Cynthia told Benzinga. "While I never consumed for a full shift before going to work, I'm convinced that marijuana has helped keep me and my mind sharp as I aged. I'm not saying it's for everyone, but for people of my generation there's nothing better."

It's 4/20, Do You Know Where Your Parents Are?

The Detroit Lions finished with one of their best records in years for the 2023 season, which means they will have a lower pick in the<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/nfldraft/"> 2024 NFL Draft.</a>
Would General Manager Brad Holmes consider trading out of the first round with the 2024 NFL Draft taking place in Detroit?
What Happened: Detroit Lions fans might not like the answer given by Holmes to the media on scenarios that could see the Lions trade their 29th overall first-round pick and move back in the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/nfldraft/detroit-live-events/">2024 NFL Draft.</a>
Holmes was asked about a scenario of trading out of the first round and didn't hesitate to say he will do what is best for the franchise.
"We have to do the right thing for the organization," Holmes said, as <a href="https://www.detroitlions.com/news/holmes-prepared-to-apologize-to-fans-if-lions-trade-out-of-first-round">reported </a>by Lions writer Mike O'Hara.
Holmes said while he would consider trading out of the first round, it's important to note that, with the draft taking place in Detroit, there might be a greater chance of upsetting the fans if he makes such a move.
A trade out of the first round could mean that any Lions fans in attendance Thursday will have spent all day downtown to watch other teams take their players in the draft.
Holmes said he would send out a "PSA and apologize" if he trades out of the first round.
"Hopefully, our fans will forgive us. We won't expect immediate forgiveness right then and there, but hopefully when the season starts."
Detroit was announced as the host city for the NFL Draft back in 2022.
"Another opportunity for our franchise and our city and just for the world to kind of migrate to downtown Detroit," Holmes said earlier this week.

Why It's Important: Holmes is no stranger to trading in the NFL Draft. Since joining as the Lions GM in 2021, Holmes has taken part in several drafts for the team and is known for dealmaking.
This includes the 2023 NFL Draft, which saw the Lions trade their sixth overall pick, acquired from the Los Angeles Rams in the Matthew Stafford trade. The Lions traded the sixth pick to the Arizona Cardinals and received back the 12th, 34th and 168th overall picks.
Lions fans will remember the 2023 Draft saw several impact players taken including running back Jahymyr Gibbs with the 12th pick and tight end Sam LaPorta with the 34th pick. Both rookies played in the 2023 NFL season and were among the top first-year players, finishing third and fourth, respectively, in NFC offensive rookie of the year voting.
The 12-5 record and appearance in the NFC Championship game gives the Lions the 29th overall pick, one of their lowest earned in years.
The Lions also have the 61st overall pick and 73rd, but have only those three picks in the first four rounds, with no fourth-round pick this year. This could prompt Holmes to be open to trades to pick up additional picks. The Lions also have a fifth-round pick, two sixth-round picks and a seventh-round pick, for seven overall picks.
In the 2023 NFL Draft, the Lions had eight picks, including two first-round picks and two second-round picks.
The Lions have had a first round pick in every season since 1994, with 1993 being the last year they didn't select a player in the first round.
The Lions&#8217; top needs by position include cornerback, offensive line and wide receiver. The Lions last took a wide receiver in the first round of 2022 (Jameson Williams) and a cornerback in the first round of 2020 (Jeff Okudah). For the offensive line, the Lions last took a guard or center in the first round in 2018 with Frank Ragnow, and last took an offensive tackle in the first round in 2021 with Penei Sewell. Of these four players, three are still with the Lions.

Hepion Pharmaceuticals Shares Resumed Trading

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) voiced her support for a Department of Justice antitrust case against leading technology company Apple Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>), which was <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/03/37905532/apple-slams-dangerous-doj-lawsuit-tim-cooks-iphone-suggestion-returns-to-haunt-and-potential-google">announced last month.</a>
In comments shared on social media, Warren took aim at the smartphone market segment of Apple.
What Happened: Apple is one of the largest smartphone companies in the world and in 2023 had seven of the top 10 selling smartphones globally <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/02/37245799/apple-dominates-2023-smartphone-list-with-7-of-top-10-models-why-its-important-for-iphone-growth">according to a report.</a>
According to Warren, Apple has a monopoly in the smartphone market and one of the company's key features could be ruining friendships and relationships.
"Green texts on iPhones, they're ruining relationships," Warren <a href="https://twitter.com/SenWarren/status/1781086997014040759">said </a>in a video posted on X.
The green texts refer to the texts that come from non-Apple phones in green bubbles versus the blue bubbles displayed by iPhone users.
"Non iPhone users everywhere are being excluded from group texts."
Warren said that this means some non-Apple smartphone users are not being included in chats about vacation plans, group chats or chats with other sports fans.
"And who's to blame here? Apple."
Warren said that the green vs. blue bubble text icons are just one example of the dirty tactics used by Apple to "keep a stranglehold on the smartphone market."
"Apple has used its monopoly on the smartphone to lock Americans into services and amass billions of dollars in profits."
Warren mentioned that apps that would let Google users use iMessage and get blue texts were <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/23/12/36165068/apple-pulls-plug-on-imessage-for-android-app-beeper-mini-its-back-to-green-bubbles-now-for-android-u">blocked by Apple.</a>
"It's time to break up Apple's monopoly now."

Gulf Resources, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GURE#NASDAQ">GURE</a>) ("Gulf Resources" or the "Company"), a leading manufacturer of bromine, crude salt and specialty chemical products in China, today announced that it received a notice (the "Notice") from the Listing Qualifications Department of The Nasdaq Stock Market LLC ("Nasdaq") notifying the Company that due to the Company's failure to timely file its Annual Report on Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2023 (the "2023 Form 10-K"), with the Securities and Exchange Commission (the "SEC"), the Company is not in compliance with Nasdaq's continued listing requirements under Nasdaq Listing Rule 5250(c)(1) (the "Rule"), which requires the timely filing of all required periodic reports with the SEC. &nbsp;
The Notice has no immediate effect on the listing of the Company's common stock on Nasdaq. Under the Nasdaq rules, the Company has 60 calendar days, or until June 17, 2024, to file the 2023 Form 10-K or to submit to Nasdaq a plan to regain compliance with the Nasdaq Listing Rule. If the Company submits a plan to Nasdaq and Nasdaq accepts the plan, Nasdaq can grant an exception of up to 180 calendar days from the filing's due date, or until October 14, 2024, to regain compliance. If the Company fails to timely regain compliance with Nasdaq Listing Rule 5250(c)(1), the Company's common stock will be subject to delisting from Nasdaq.
The Company continues to work diligently to complete the 2023 Form 10-K and currently intends to file the 2023 Form 10-K by no later than June 10, 2024.
This announcement is made in compliance with the Nasdaq Listing Rule 5810(b), which requires prompt disclosure of receipt of a notification of deficiency.

Lifecore Biomedical, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LFCR#NASDAQ">LFCR</a>) (the "Company") announced today that, on April 15, 2024, the Company received a notification letter (the "Notice") from the Listing Qualifications Department of The Nasdaq Stock Market LLC ("Nasdaq") indicating that, as a result of the Company's delay in filing its Quarterly Report on Form 10-Q for the fiscal quarter ended February 25, 2024 (the "Q3 Form 10-Q") and its continued delay in filing its Quarterly Report on Form 10-Q for the quarterly periods ended August 27, 2023 and November 29, 2023 (the "Q1 Form 10-Q" and "Q2 Form 10-Q," respectively, and together with the Q3 Form 10-Q, the "Filings") with the Securities and Exchange Commission (the "SEC"), the Company continues not to be in compliance with the requirements for continued listing under Nasdaq Listing Rule 5250(c)(1) (the "Listing Rule"), and that the Nasdaq Hearings Panel would consider the delinquency in the filing of the Q3 Form 10-Q in rendering its determination regarding the Company's continued listing on Nasdaq Global Select Market. &nbsp;
The Notice has no immediate effect on the listing or trading of the Company's common stock on the Nasdaq Global Select Market. As previously disclosed, Nasdaq had previously granted the Company until February 12, 2024 to regain compliance with the Listing Rule, and, on February 13, 2024, the Company received the Staff Delisting Determination notifying the Company that Nasdaq has initiated a process which could result in the delisting of the Company's securities from Nasdaq as a result of the Company not being in compliance with the Listing Rule. The Company appealed the Staff Delisting Determination, and, on April 16, 2024, the Company appeared for the hearing in which the Company requested a further stay of any suspension or delisting action to enable the Company to regain compliance with the Listing Rule. The Nasdaq Hearings Panel has not yet issued its decision, although the Company anticipates that a decision will be forthcoming.
The Company continues to work diligently to complete the Filings and intends to file the Filings as promptly as possible to regain compliance under the Listing Rule. However, there can be no assurance that such periodic reports will be filed before the expiration of any stay granted by Nasdaq, or that the Nasdaq Hearing Panel will grant the Company's request for a further stay of any suspension or delisting action
