Kennedy, selected by President-elect Donald Trump to head the Department of Health and Human Services, has been vocal about his desire to reduce the use of HFCS, which he links to health issues like obesity and diabetes.
With about 8% of U.S. corn dedicated to HFCS production, farmers worry that any shift away from this market could drastically impact their incomes.
Experts estimate that up to 1.4 billion bushels of corn could be displaced if a ban is implemented, leading to a potential drop in prices.

The U.S. Corn Refiners Association, which represents major agribusinesses, declined to comment on the potential impact of Kennedy&#8217;s stance.
Meanwhile, some farmers, like Dan Kelley from Illinois, are more focused on external factors such as global competition and trade tariffs than on Kennedy&#8217;s health-focused policies, The Guardian adds.
Despite Kennedy&#8217;s outspoken views on food reform, experts don&#8217;t expect immediate changes to the HFCS market.
Although corn and seed crops are a significant component of U.S. agriculture, the demand for high fructose corn syrup has dropped by nearly 50% since 1999.

RFK Jr. Pledge Could Shatter Corn Industry: Farmers Brace for Impact

House Speaker Mike Johnson says that his first private meeting with President Joe Biden left him deeply concerned, as Biden appeared unaware of an executive order he had recently signed.
What Happened: In an interview with The Free Press, Johnson alleged that Biden's cognitive state and lack of engagement have raised doubts about his leadership. 
Johnson said that he believed that Biden was not actively managing the country and was instead &#8220;signing what others were putting in front of him.&#8221; The order signed by Biden, which paused liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports to Europe, prompted Johnson to ask, "Who is running the country?"
During the discussion, Johnson recalled a January 2022 meeting at the White House. Despite his initial requests for a private meeting with Biden being delayed for months, Johnson said he eventually had a brief one-on-one interaction after an initial session with several Democratic leaders, Vice President Kamala Harris, and a CIA official. 
Biden reportedly asked his advisers to leave the room, allowing the Speaker and the president to speak directly.

According to <a href="https://www.thefp.com/p/when-mike-johnson-knew-joe-biden-not-in-charge">the</a> interview, Johnson shared that he brought up concerns regarding a recent executive order impacting his Louisiana constituents. "I asked him, ‘Mr. President, why did you pause LNG exports to Europe? This is causing massive damage to our economy and helping Russian President Vladimir Putin's war efforts,&#8221; Johnson recounted.
According to the Speaker, Biden appeared confused and denied signing such an order. Johnson pressed further, insisting the president had indeed issued the directive, which Biden reportedly attributed to a study on LNG impacts rather than a ban.
"It occurred to me he genuinely did not know what he had signed," Johnson said, describing the encounter as unsettling. He added, "I walked out of that meeting with fear and loathing because I thought, ‘We're in serious trouble.'"
In January 2024, the White House announced a temporary halt on pending LNG export approvals, citing its climate agenda as the primary reason. 
The decision has faced criticism from energy industry stakeholders and lawmakers, particularly from regions reliant on LNG exports.
On Saturday, Elon Musk responded to Johnson&#8217;s statement and said Biden was not in charge.

Three Hostages Cross Into Israeli Territory After 471 Days as Ceasefire Begins

TikTok came back online in the U.S. shortly after 12:00 p.m. ET, two hours after President-elect Donald Trump said on social media that he will sign an executive order Monday postponing enforcement of the new law requiring the sale of the Chinese-owned platform.
What Happened: As <a href="https://www.axios.com/2025/01/19/trump-tiktok-ban-delay-executive-order">reported</a> by Axios, Trump, who was once at the forefront of the campaign to ban TikTok, is now championing its survival. Trump wrote on Truth Social, &#8220;I will issue an executive order on Monday to extend the period of time before the law&#8217;s prohibitions take effect, so that we can make a deal to protect our national security.&#8221;
US users of the popular video app began finding that access had been restored shortly after noon on the East Coast.
Trump&#8217;s post indicated that the order would absolve any company that assisted in keeping TikTok operational prior to his order from any liability. He voiced his aspiration for the US to secure a &#8220;50% ownership position&#8221; in a joint venture to rescue TikTok. &#8220;By doing this, we save TikTok, keep it in good hands and allow it to [stay] up.&#8221;
However, the specifics of Trump&#8217;s plan, including whether he intends for the US government or a US company to hold this 50% stake, and how he aims to circumvent the law, remain ambiguous, as an executive order cannot supersede it.
The law, signed by President Joe Biden in April, mandated TikTok&#8217;s parent company, ByteDance, to sell the app to an approved buyer by January 19 to evade a ban. The law does allow for the president to initiate a 90-day extension, but only if substantial progress towards divestiture is made and binding legal agreements are in place to facilitate a deal.

Levinson said Zoox plans to launch an "Early Rider Program" in Las Vegas in the next few months and open its autonomous vehicle ride-hailing service to the general public later this year.&nbsp;

The company was founded in 2014 and acquired by Amazon in 2020 for more than $1.2 billion. Zoox's vehicles have been designed as driver-less from the start and have no steering wheel, pedals or driver's seat. The vehicles are symmetrical and bidirectional and can seat up to four passengers.&nbsp;
Zoox has been testing its driver-less vehicles in Las Vegas since 2023 and began testing in San Francisco last November. Zoox has pegged San Francisco as its next expansion and Levinson said the company also has plans to expand to Miami and Austin, Texas.&nbsp;&nbsp;
"Hopefully by the end of this decade, if you're in most of the major cities in the U.S., this will be your favorite way to get around," Levinson said.

What Happened: The meme coin&#8217;s market value soared to $5.6 billion within just 24 hours of the launch, suggesting a potential financial boon for entities linked to Trump.
The token, which provides direct financial advantages to the president-elect's family, has drawn immediate backlash from government watchdogs. They perceive it as a violation of ethical standards and a way for the president-elect to monetize his international prestige.
The TRUMP meme coin, unlike other digital assets, is not tied to any underlying business. This makes it a highly speculative investment for investors and potentially extremely lucrative for its creators. 
As per the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pro/">Benzinga Pro</a> data, the meme coin&#8217;s market value reached $14.2 billion early Sunday, nearly tripling from $4.9 billion just 12 hours prior.
The meme coins started selling for $10 each before soaring to as high as about $70 as of Sunday morning.
At the time of writing TRUMP was trading at $56.02, up by almost 95% in the last 24 hours. 
According to a report <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-01-19/trump-s-memecoin-creates-billions-from-thin-air-before-dc-return?sref=TBDibEcD">by </a>Bloomberg, CIC Digital LLC, an affiliate of the Trump Organization, and a related entity, Fight Fight Fight LLC, own an 80% share of the digital asset. These holdings will be gradually unlocked over a span of three years.

Blaine Anderson, the CEO of online dating coaching company Dating by Blaine, has detailed why she declined an offer from billionaire Mark Cuban after initially accepting the deal on &#8220;Shark Tank.&#8221;
What Happened: Anderson&#8217;s company, which provides online dating courses and personalized coaching, was pitched on the ABC reality TV show. Anderson initially sought $100,000 for a 2% stake in her company, which would have valued it at $5 million.
Founded in 2020 after Anderson lost her job due to the pandemic, the company has since generated over $2.2 million in sales, with a profit of around $500,000 on sales worth $1 million in 2022.

The sheer scale of the damage has made the Los Angeles wildfires one of the costliest disasters in U.S. history, surpassing even the record-breaking wildfire seasons of recent years.&nbsp;
President Biden has promised that the federal government will cover all the fire response costs and give affected families a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/42992642/biden-administration-announces-one-time-770-payments-to-california-wildfire-victims">$770 one-time check</a>. Still, rebuilding will take years and more money and planning will be needed. Local leaders are asking Congress for extra funding, but it's unclear when that will happen.

'Spare No Expense,' Says Biden, But Who's Really Footing The Bill, As The Los Angeles Wildfire Damage Surpasses $250 Billion

As Donald Trump prepares for his historic second inauguration next week, excitement is palpable not only among his supporters but also within the cryptocurrency community.
The market has been brimming with optimism, as reports have indicated that the president-elect would <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/43047039/trump-planning-to-declare-cryptocurrency-as-national-priority-increase-engagement-with-industry-report">announce several measures</a> to help the digital asset industry expand.
Naturally, speculation around market moves has been running high, especially for heavyweights like Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>).
Several analysts that Benzinga spoke to provided interesting viewpoints about what to expect come Jan. 20.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Will Bitcoin Consolidate Or Rally?</h2>
According to Arthur Azizov, CEO of cryptocurrency payment company B2BINPAY,&nbsp; a &#8220;gradual&#8221; increase over Trump&#8217;s four-year term was a more plausible scenario than an "immediate" 100% spike for all coins.
Azizov predicted that Bitcoin would consolidate following the inauguration, giving altcoins room to rally.
"As for Bitcoin's price, I believe it could be around $100,000–$102,000 next month," Azizov added.

Chris Kline, COO and Co-Founder of BitcoinIRA, was confident that if the anticipated <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/25/01/43035888/donald-trump-reportedly-open-to-us-crypto-reserve-as-bitcoin-reserve-chatter-gathers-steam">cryptocurrency-friendly executive orders</a> are enacted, they would encourage blockchain innovation and digital asset usage.
Among the proposals being evaluated for inclusion in the executive order is the establishment of a national Bitcoin reserve that would include the government's current Bitcoin holdings. Such a move could have far-reaching implications for Bitcoin's future valuations.
With these factors at play, Kline expressed confidence that bold projections, including the<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/25/01/42965795/tom-lee-forecasts-bitcoin-could-dip-to-50k-but-maintains-long-term-target-of-250k-amid-market-volatility"> $250,000 per Bitcoin target </a>by Wall Street Strategist Tom Lee, seem probable.
Joe McCann, founder and CEO of cryptocurrency hedge fund Asymmetric, added to the positive outlook, saying, &#8220;The worst is behind us.&#8221;
McCann stated that Bitcoin reclaiming the key psychological barrier of $100,000 was indicative of a positive sentiment.
"Although it's trading slightly below that right now, it shows significant open interest with targets ranging from $125,000 to $150,000. This indicates bullish sentiment and expectations for continued price growth," he added.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">More Clarity Needed For Bitcoin To Surge?</h2>
Meanwhile, Arthur Hayes, co-founder of cryptocurrency exchange BitMEX, took a contrarian position, even forecasting a correction from present levels.
&nbsp;"I think Bitcoin will be range-bound between $90,000 and $100,000 until some of Trump's economic policies are clarified and the rest of the world reacts," Hayes told Benzinga.
Never before had the cryptocurrency community anticipated a presidential inauguration like this. While the true extent of the impact could not be accurately ascertained, there was little doubt that Trump's policies, or lack thereof, would dictate how the market moves in the near future.

According to Reuters, Toyota also had a solid year, with sales rising 3.7% to over 2.3 million vehicles compared to 2.25 million in the previous year. Honda saw an even more significant boost, with an 8.8% increase to 1.4 million units sold.&nbsp;
Hyundai and Kia broke records, with Hyundai sales up 4% to 836,802 and Kia climbing 1.8% to 796,488 units. Both brands leaned on their mix of compact and fuel-efficient vehicles to keep the momentum going.

Dodge was hardest hit, with a 29% sales decline, while Jeep was down 9%. In a CNN report, Edmunds' head of industry insights, Jessica Caldwell, commented on Stellantis&#8217; pricing strategy, stating, &#8220;They just can't afford this,&#8221; referring to Stellantis' typical consumers&#8217; inability to follow the brand toward higher prices.&nbsp;
She further explained, &#8220;That's the wall they're hitting. Fundamentally they have a product mismatch for the market.&#8221;
Discounts helped drive sales across the board. According to the Wall Street Journal, buyers in December got an average of $3,400 off, up 25% from 2023.&nbsp;
