A popular cryptocurrency analyst expressed concerns over Ethereum&#8217;s (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/eth/usd">ETH</a>) underwhelming performance and assessed its future prospects on Monday.
What Happened:&nbsp;In a series of X posts, Ali Martinez, known for identifying chart patterns and issuing price predictions, called Ethereum one of the &#8220;weakest&#8221; performers in the cryptocurrency market in recent days.
The concerns were not unfounded. The second-largest cryptocurrency has dropped about 2.5% in value since 2025 began, as opposed to the gains accumulated by other large-cap coins like Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>), Solana (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/sol/usd">SOL</a>), and XRP (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/xrp/usd">XRP</a>).
Martinez noted that Ethereum&#8217;s network adoption has slowed down considerably, with the number of new ETH addresses declining by 9.32% over the past week.

The analyst also noted Ethereum&#8217;s historical tendency to perform well in the first quarter. On average, the second-largest cryptocurrency gains 82% in this period, <a href="https://www.coinglass.com/today">according </a>to data from Coinglass.
The historical success possibly justified large whale accumulations totaling over a billion in the last week, Martinez stated, citing on-chain data. Additionally, roughly $2 billion worth of ETH was withdrawn from cryptocurrency exchanges over the last month, suggesting significant buying demand.
For the sentiment to flip bullish, Martinez said that ETH must break crucial resistance levels, with the $3,360–$3,450 zone acting as a major barrier. 
He also noted the formation of an inverse head and shoulders pattern, breaking from which could potentially send the coin to $7,000.
Note that the inverse head and shoulders pattern is a bullish reversal pattern, indicating exhaustion of a prolonged downturn.

Passenger Traffic Overview
Total passenger traffic increased by 3.2% in December compared to the same month in 2023, or by 6.6% when adjusted for the discontinuation of operations at Natal Airport. Domestic passenger traffic decreased by 2.1% year-over-year but increased by 3.3% when excluding Natal. This growth was primarily driven by strong performance in Italy and a recovery in domestic traffic in Argentina. International traffic increased by 11.4%, mainly driven by growth in Argentina and Italy.

Customers in the U.S. looking to purchase an electric vehicle can get a $7500 federal EV tax credit for several models including from Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>), Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/F#NYSE">F</a>), and more. However, President Donald Trump on Monday said that his administration would consider ending tax credits, impacting the purchase price for eligible customers.
Vehicles That Qualify: The various Tesla electric vehicles eligible for $7,500 include select trims of the Cybertruck, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y. Other brand vehicles that qualify include the Kia EV9 and selected trims of the F-150 Lightning truck.
The only Plug-in Hybrid that qualifies for the credit is the Chrysler Pacifica PHEV.

Trump&#8217;s Take On EV Tax Credits: In November, Reuters reported that Donald Trump‘s transition team plans to kill the $7,500 tax credit available on EV purchases. On Monday, after his inauguration, Trump himself said his administration would consider ending EV tax credits.
&#8220;The Republicans have a very small majority in the House, which could make it hard for the party to pass legislation of any kind,&#8221; The Future Fund Managing Partner Gary Black said about a possible repeal of the tax credit on Monday. &#8220;Another wild card is Elon Musk, with $TSLA accounting for nearly half of all EVs sold in the country. With Elon Musk close to the president, it is important to know how he will seek to shape changes to the tax credit. Other auto executives have also been lobbying Mr. Trump against a repeal of the credit. Among them is Ford's executive chairman, William C. Ford Jr., who recently spoke to the president-elect.&#8221;
However, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, a close Trump ally, has previously supported scrapping of the tax credit. 
"In my view, we should end all government subsidies, including those for EVs, oil and gas," Musk said in November.
During Tesla&#8217;s second-quarter earnings in late July, Musk also said that the impact of the elimination of subsidies&nbsp;<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/07/39934750/trump-presidency-and-ira-cut-would-be-devastating-for-competitors-says-elon-musk-long-term-probably" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">would only be slight for Tesla</a>&nbsp;but devastating for its competitors. The elimination of EV subsidies would probably help Tesla in the long term, he added.
However, not all are in agreement. Tesla researcher Troy Teslike has previously said that the loss of tax credit will only make Tesla<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/12/42641207/researcher-says-cancelation-of-7500-ev-tax-credit-could-impact-teslas-deliveries-despite-ceo-elon-musk-claiming-otherwise" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">&nbsp;lose its market to gas cars</a>&nbsp;from luxury car brands.
Trump, on Monday also revoked a 2021 executive order signed by former President Joe Biden that sought to ensure that 50% of new vehicles sold in the U.S. by 2020 are electric.
