Mondo to Showcase Latest Innovations at NSCAA Convention

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., Jan. 13, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mondo, the leader in sports flooring, will showcase 3NX, a revolutionary new artificial turf fiber, at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Convention this week in Philadelphia. The fiber sets new standards in artificial turf performance, durability and safety, and provides natural-grass-like playability that is ideal for soccer.

Engineered by the Mondo Research Center in collaboration with other high-performance laboratories, the new 3NX fiber has proven core characteristics that allow it to perfectly mimic the responses of natural grass and provide superior player comfort, while offering outstanding resilience and durability.

3NX's innovative monofilament fiber features a new semi-concave structure with three asymmetrical spines. The unique, patented design combined with a new state-of-the-art polymer provides superior molecular alignment and orientation of the fiber. The result is the new 3NX fiber has the optimum level of resilience, dimensional stability and recovery. With its increased resilience and structure, the 3NX fiber's translational and rotational friction characteristics lend themselves to easy pivots and turns, even in high torque scenarios. Ball roll and bounce mimic natural grass.

"As official turf supplier to NSCAA, we are especially pleased to display Mondo's new 3NX fiber at the NSCAA convention," said Federico Stroppiana, president, Mondo North and South America. "3NX raises the bar for artificial turf performance and safety, and Mondo is proud to deliver innovations that improve the game for soccer players and coaches."

Manufactured by Mondo, the 270 micrometer thick fibers are lead free and two toned, which makes them look like natural grass fibers. New UV stabilization helps the fibers retain their color and technical properties.

The new 3NX fiber is ideal as part of Mondoturf FTS3, a complete artificial turf system that features Mondo's Fine Tuned System and Ecofill infill.

The Fine Tuned System's underlayment is a prefabricated shock pad/drainage system made of recycled tire granules that are treated and encapsulated in polyurethane, preventing the possibility of contamination. The underlayment compacts less than traditional systems, so the field's play and performance characteristics remain consistent throughout the entire surface, ensuring optimal play and outstanding ball action while minimizing the risk of injuries to athletes, even if the infill migrates.

The system's infill, Mondo's Ecofill, is a patented, environmentally friendly, factory-manufactured polyolefin-based granule infill. Unlike reground tire pellets, Ecofill is lead free and virtually odor free, even in hot, humid conditions, and it retains up to 30 percent less heat than traditional black rubber granules for reduced athletic fatigue and dehydration and field watering prior to use. It also is completely recyclable, which is an industry first.

Mondo Portable Artificial Turf System

Also at NSCAA, Mondo will feature another innovation: its new portable artificial turf system.

Made up of rollable artificial turf panels that are secured by Velcro, Mondo's portable artificial turf system can be used for soccer and other field sports, and then easily rolled up and efficiently stored when not in use. The product gives coaches and facility managers extraordinary flexibility -- offering a cutting-edge surface for soccer, football and other field sports and an efficient way to remove the turf for basketball, track and other hard-floor sports. The solution is ideal for facilities with limited floor space.

The product was developed in 2009 for a university that needed a removable artificial turf solution for a multipurpose facility.
