NEW ORLEANS, Aug. 31, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The first ever NOLA Tech Tap: Community Ideathon 2022 is happening in September. The innovation marathon convenes young people (18-35 years) from the Greater New Orleans area to work together on developing project ideas to further sustainable livelihood in local communities with the aid of technology. The event is organized by the Melton Foundation, a non-profit organization and a leading proponent of global citizenship practice, in partnership with Nisum, a leading global digital commerce firm, and Dillard University, Louisiana's oldest HBCU dedicated to building competence.

The NOLA Tech Tap will be held from September 15-17, 2022, to create spaces and foster collaboration, let fresh thinking emerge, and harness the true spirit of global citizenship to find meaningful tech-oriented solutions to further sustained livelihoods. During the event, participants will form innovation teams to tackle real-life challenges and develop simple, practical, and creative solution ideas using technology as a tool to propel social impact. Facilitated activities and sessions throughout the event will be conducted on a virtual platform; to foster human connections, an essential aspect of the NOLA Tech Tap, an on-site extension will be organized for registered participants to access.

Conducted as a 48 hours Innovation Marathon, the NOLA Tech Tap draws upon the convergence of youth empowerment, collaboration, and diversity to propel innovation in the field of the SDGs and ignite social innovation and entrepreneurship. The NOLA Tech Tap: Community Ideathon 2022 - Challenges

The ideathon will challenge participants to design actionable, inclusive, and achievable project ideas that activate local communities to become stakeholders in the use of technology to improve sustainable livelihoods in New Orleans. This while also being cognizant of bridging gaps across different socio-economic strata and designing solution ideas for those with no technology background.

Participants are encouraged to design social innovation project ideas driven by technology that relate to the following Innovation Challenges the NOLA Tech Tap is looking to address:

  • How might we harness technology for social innovation to propel equitable and sustainable livelihood in the region?
  • How might we activate local communities to become stakeholders in the use of technology for social, economic, and ecological impact?
  • How might we bridge gaps in economic empowerment for those with a limited technology background to further decent work and economic growth opportunities for all?

Furthermore, the NOLA Tech Tap 2022 derives its essence of cooperation among different community stakeholders to attain positive results from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), more specifically, SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth) and SDG 10 (reduced inequality). At this intersection, the event searches for myriad ways to leverage technology and level playing fields. Furthermore, SDG 5 (achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls) and SDG 17 (partnerships for the goals) provide anchors for the endeavor, broadening its scope to reach beyond the conventional.

Registrations are open until August 31, 2022 - participant spots are limited! For more information and/or any queries, email Lars Dietzel at the Melton Foundation (ldietzel@meltonfoundation.org).
