Based on true events, this picture book takes readers on an educational ride

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., Aug. 15, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- In "Penny and Maria the Donkey's Journey to the Temple of Athena," author Paula Andres uses her own true experience to educate young readers on how the minds of their furry friends work in this adventure to the top of the Temple of Athena.

This story follows a young girl named Penny who travels to Greece. She fulfills a dream of riding a donkey up to the ancient Temple of Athena. However, this dream come true takes a turn for the unexpected as Penny gets more than what she bargained for on this ride.

Maria the donkey is paired with Penny. The two form a bond that becomes a little rocky, but only one of the two knows the reasoning. Bumps, bruises, screams and close calls are all curricula in this learning experience.

"Animals' actions are based on the nature of their species," Andres said.

The book reveals a peek into the mind of Maria the Donkey as her inner monologue speaks. Readers learn what she's thinking while Penny is riding her, and the reasoning for the aforementioned bumps and bruises.

"While trying to get close to the animals that crossed my path, I experienced many misadventures throughout my life," Andres said. "I refer to these incidents as 'critter calamities.' This book was written to show children that animals don't act with purposeful intent."
