The Down Syndrome Superhero, by Eugene Tossany, takes you on a literary adventure that is the perfect storm of Down Syndrome advocacy and science fiction splendor. Written as a fictional tale, from distinct points of view - Down Syndrome mother, disabled Veteran and child Advocate – this story is sure to resonate with a compassionate audience.

On International Day for Tolerance (11/16/2020), Eugene Tossany, is pleased to announce the release of her first book, The Down Syndrome Superhero.

An intriguing story encompassing a delicate topic, The Down Syndrome Superhero is a supernatural tale about a Down Syndrome teenager, her canine companion, a new best friend, and a talking hummingbird. In the story, the Down Syndrome teenager, Josie, activates a magic rock that reveals a portal above her hometown with access to an alternate dimension. Woven into the story is a cautionary description of how predators sometimes target special needs children. In this setting, a small hummingbird intervenes to save Josie's town, while Josie's parents step up as her ultimate protectors.

Using this captivating, creative tale, The Down Syndrome Superhero introduces parents of Down Syndrome children to a sensitive topic in a powerful way. According to Author Eugene Tossany, "There is no collective thought on how we should prepare our special needs children and young adults to fight against pedophiles. And yet, it is one of the most important conversations in a growing Down Syndrome child's life, as many of them have no sense of ‘stranger danger'." The Down Syndrome Superhero helps parents present this topic by providing guidance using an imaginative tale, along with a descriptive dialogue about how to speak with their special needs child(ren) and resolve sensitive topics.

The Significance of the November 16 Release Date

November 16, 2020 was selected as the release date of The Down Syndrome Superhero, because of the significance of the United Nations' International Day for Tolerance and the nature of the delicate themes explored in the book. Much of the focus of the International Day for Tolerance has been on understanding how to move beyond conflict to a better, kinder future together. This day is significant to the Author, Ms. Tossany, who points out that included among the United Nations' (UN) preamble, is a declaration of principles on tolerance that align with her position as an Advocate for children's rights and Down Syndrome awareness. Most notably, the UN preamble emphasizes social and cultural rights, the convention on the rights of the child, and the convention against torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, all of which tie into the underlying themes discussed in the book.

The Down Syndrome Superhero was recently endorsed by Mikayla Holmgren, the first person with Down Syndrome to compete in any state's Miss USA pageant. Ms. Holmgren included Eugene Tossany's book as part of the VIP packages for the 2020 Dream Big Fashion Without Limits fundraiser. The event featured Down Syndrome and Pageant models.

The Down Syndrome Superhero (Olympia Publishers) is available for purchase in the United States via Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com. The first book is also available in the United Kingdom via Amazon.co.uk and bookstores. The Down Syndrome Superhero 2 is in production and slated for 2021 release.
