BROOKVILLE, Pa., Nov. 16, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Miller Fabrication Solutions, a top supplier-partner of steel-fabricated parts to heavy equipment manufacturers, announces the results from its month-long celebration of America's Manufacturing Day ("MFG Day") in October, as well as approval of its Apprenticeship Program by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry (DLI).

Miller Wraps Up "Manufacturing Month"

When the pandemic forced the cancellation of in-person tours as part of MFG Day this year, Miller instead opted to expand its participation by hosting five free webinars, which covered virtual plant tours at its three locations, interviews with its manufacturing experts and introductions of industry concepts and terminology.

These online events attracted more than 1,000 registrants from 16 states. Event attendees comprised suppliers, educators, vendors, customers, prospective customers and students, with 87% of the audience under the age of 18 and largely exploring careers.

In post-event surveys, attendees rated both their satisfaction level and recommendation of the Manufacturing Month webinars an average of 4.7 out of 5. The majority of feedback indicated that learning more about Miller Fabrication Solutions and seeing robots and equipment in action were "liked best" about the events.

Attendees also said they had learned that robots make it safer and more efficient to create and build parts, but do not necessarily replace laborers. Educators noted that the webinars better prepared them to teach manufacturing in schools and to better help students who are exploring manufacturing opportunities. Survey results showed that the events fostered an interest in manufacturing careers.

By matching donations from Manufacturing Month participants, Miller also raised much-needed funds for several nonprofits that support the Western Pennsylvania communities where the company does business.

"The charitable-giving component of Manufacturing Month allowed us to serve our purpose of improving the lives of employees, customers, suppliers and especially the community, during what has been a difficult year for these local organizations," Miller Fabrication Solutions president Eric D. Miller said.

Igniting Career Paths with Apprenticeship

To provide further occupational training opportunities that include paid work and tailored instruction in the welding and machining trades, Miller Fabrication Solutions has recently received certification by the state of Pennsylvania, becoming one of the state's approved apprenticeships.

"Our apprenticeship program represents our firm commitment to developing the talent of American workers and job seekers," said Miller. "As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, manufacturing is muscling its way back to health. As it does, hiring and retaining skilled professional workers will be a pervasive challenge. Miller's apprenticeship demonstrates our consistent efforts to draw public attention to the benefits and promise of manufacturing as a key contributor to America's economic health."

The state's approval confirms that Miller's apprenticeships meet state DLI standards, making it eligible to receive grant money to help fund the training. The certification also makes it easier for people interested in welding and machining careers to find the opportunities available at Miller through the DLI website. Apprentices learn the practical and conceptual skills required for a skilled occupation, craft or trade over a three-year period. Upon program completion, apprentices receive a national, portable credential from Pennsylvania confirming they are highly skilled trade professionals.

Employers with registered apprenticeship programs experience reduced turnover, lower training costs and improved productivity, according to the Pennsylvania Apprenticeship and Training Office.

The Miller Apprenticeship Program will open in 2021; interested candidates may apply for future consideration at http://www.millerfabricationsolutions.com/careers.
