Deal extends Impress3's effort to preserve and optimize local media outlets nationwide, as the company expands its existing footprint in the Bay Area through ownership of both Hoodline & SFist.

SAN FRANCISCO (PRWEB) October 13, 2020

Impress3 Media, owner of SFist among other local news and trade publications across the U.S., has announced its acquisition of Hoodline, a digital news site focused primarily on neighborhood-level reporting in San Francisco and Oakland. Impress3 acquired the Hoodline brand and the flagship Bay Area site from Nextdoor, a move that follows Impress3's 2018 acquisition of SFist. This announcement brings two of the Bay Area's most popular local news publications under one roof.

"We are thrilled that Hoodline will join our organization," says Impress3 CEO Zack Chen. "Our founding team, mostly San Francisco natives, is dedicated not only to the preservation of local news in the Bay Area, but also across the country. We're delighted that Hoodline will continue to inform and entertain its audiences."

Founded in 2014, Hoodline reports on-the-ground, local news from a neighborhood perspective, with a focus on key topics like small businesses, restaurants, infrastructure, transit, crime and housing. Its reporting has won several SF Press Club awards, and has been cited in publications including the New York Times and TechCrunch.

"I hope to help Hoodline and its writing team continue their impressive work of reflecting San Francisco's neighborhoods and reporting news for the people who live in them, while also expanding the scope to cover a more diverse swath of Bay Area neighborhoods," says Jay Barmann, longtime editor-in-chief of SFist, who will help oversee the transition from the editorial side. "As we strive cover such a wide and diverse region, we will also seek to hire an equally diverse group of additional writers and editors to report on those areas."

SFist, which was founded in 2004 as part of the Gothamist network and in 2019 became a stand-alone site under Impress3's ownership, will continue to cover Bay Area news, culture, and politics with an emphasis on San Francisco as it always has.
