IDAHO FALLS, Idaho, Oct. 15, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- LabStats, a leading hardware and software tracking solution provider trusted by over 1,000 colleges and universities worldwide to monitor campus computer lab usage and maximize returns on IT spending, today announced that more than 300 top educational institutions are now using its Remote Access Dashboard (RAD), a novel solution designed to help students and researchers adapt to the challenges of post-pandemic remote work. Since launching in March the RAD platform has been used nearly 2 million times by students at top U.S. institutions including San Diego State University, Humboldt State University, Seattle Central College, Merrimack College, and the University of South Dakota, as well as colleges and universities in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland.

Launched a matter of days after COVID-19 was declared a global pandemic, RAD automatically determines which on-campus computers are available, then helps students and researchers to remotely access critical lab resources and software from their personal computers. Because the software is still running on the on-campus computer, researchers can seamlessly harness the full potential of even the most computationally intensive tools — including PhotoShop, CAD suites, SPSS, or Mathematica — without needing powerful computers or expensive individual software licenses.

"At a time when both universities and students are facing logistical and financial challenges, we wanted to make it easy for IT departments to unlock the potential of existing on-campus resources — without having to invest time and money building custom remote connectivity solutions," explains LabStats CEO Daniel Berry. "The transition to remote learning and research is tough for everyone, but with RAD, instructors can be confident that students have access to the tools they need, ensuring that research and learning can continue without interruption."

The RAD system runs in parallel with LabStats' flagship LabStats technology, which is used by institutions including Harvard, Yale, Duke, Imperial College London, University of Melbourne, and Columbia University to take the guesswork out of managing campus computer labs and ensure related IT budgets are deployed efficiently. With intelligent real-time computer usage data, LabStats allows institutions to understand how shared hot-desk spaces are used, ensure they're buying software licenses that reflect the real needs of their institutions, and deliver an enhanced student lab experience.

"LabStats has already proven itself a vital partner as we've worked to squeeze the most value possible out of our IT spending," says Thomas Hausmann, Associate Vice President and Chief Information Officer at the Milwaukee Area Technical College. "With RAD, they've delivered a whole new layer of added value, helping our instructors and students adapt to the challenges of remote teaching and learning, while simultaneously enabling us to keep our IT costs as low as possible."
