DiabetesSisters to provide all peer support to members via online methods until February 1, 2021

CHICAGO (PRWEB) July 29, 2020

DiabetesSisters has extended the suspension of all in-person meetings until February 1, 2021. DiabetesSisters PODS Leaders will continue to offer members the opportunity to gather for regular peer support meetings using online or conference call platforms.

As a national nonprofit with a large number of volunteer leaders in communities across the United States, striving to improve the health and quality of life for women with diabetes, DiabetesSisters continues its commitment to closely following the situation regarding COVID-19 and lowering the impact of COVID-19 on both its volunteers and the members of peer support groups those volunteers lead.

"Over the last several months, we have seen the number of women attending our virtual meetups increase by 50%," said Anna Norton, MS, CEO of DiabetesSisters. "We continue to monitor the everchanging nature of COVID-19 on our society and our community, and will continue to provide women living with diabetes the peer support they need during this pandemic and beyond, always thinking about their safety and wellbeing."

People with diabetes have been identified as one group that may face higher risks of complications when dealing with COVID-19. For the health and safety of its volunteer leaders, group members, and staff, DiabetesSisters is following recommendations from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

About the PODS Meetup Program:
Since 2010, the PODS (Part of DiabetesSisters) Meetup Program has offered monthly support to women living with any type of diabetes or prediabetes, providing a respectful, non-judgmental space to discuss the successes and challenges of living with diabetes. Women age 18 and older, living with any type of diabetes or prediabetes, are invited to attend PODS Meetups.
