London Self-Storage Facilities Are Keeping Its Doors Open

London, UK – In response to the COVID-19 pandemic the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on 23rd March that a partial lockdown had been put in place, lasting at least 3 weeks. Mr Johnson said some non-essential businesses must temporarily shut-down and that everybody should stay at home and only leave for specific reasons:

  • Shopping for “basic necessities”, as infrequently as possible. People should use delivery services, where they can
  • Medical reasons, to provide care, or to help a vulnerable person
  • Travelling to and from work, but only if it is “absolutely necessary”

These measures have been put in place to encourage people to reduce social contact as much as possible and by doing so help to slow down the spread of the Coronavirus, which causes a respiratory illness and can prove fatal.

The virus is highly contagious and most commonly spreads through close contact with a COVID-19 positive person. People in the UK are being urged to be vigilant and take extra care to be as hygienic as possible by doing things such as washing their hands frequently, minimising touching their face, and by practicing social distancing by keeping a minimum distance of 2 metres (6 feet) from anyone not in their own home.

Self-storage was not identified as one of the business types that must close and as such, and in line with the advice given by the Self Storage Association, Henfield Storage has announced that it will keep all its London self-storage facilities open during the partial lockdown.

On its website Henfield says: ‘Many of our country’s businesses and essential workers rely on our services, and we aim to provide as close to (a) normal service as possible during these difficult days. We will be maintaining our normal opening hours,’ Ben Sutton-Jones wrote in a blog post

COVID-19 is a serious threat to our health. As such, Henfield Storage has taken extra measures to make sure that all of their storage facilities are kept well maintained, clean, and sanitized. They report that their daily cleaning of store areas have been heightened to ensure that the virus does not spread. To practice social distancing and lessen interaction, the reception centre has been closed.

Should clients need to talk to a staff member, Henfield Storage recommends that they call their store phone number to do so. Contract and payments have also been temporarily migrated to an online process to eliminate as much physical contact as possible. Their storage facility opening times is currently:

Chiswick, Southwark, Staples Corner, Wimbledon

Monday-Friday: 8:30am-5:00pm

Saturday: 9:00am-1:30pm

Sunday: 9:00am-11:30am

Monday-Friday: 8:00am-5:00pm

Saturday: 8:00am-12:30pm

Sunday: 8:00am-10:30am

However, this is subject to change at short notice.

We strongly advise that individuals only go out of their homes if they need something essential from their storage units. Otherwise, stay at home to help slow the spread of COVID-19 and therefore reduce the burden on the health service, which will save lives. You can follow updates from Henfield Storage here

Most other London Storage companies, such as Safestore and Big Yellow, have also announced that they will stay open. Store opening times may have changed so it’s best to call ahead before coming over.
