The Pink Parachute Project Lands in Denver

DENVER, Feb.27, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- "The Pink Parachute Project", a women's empowerment photo series, is landing at the Black Crow Gallery on March 27th (from 5 – 9 pm) during the Golden Triangle's "Final Fridays" Art Walk series. The Pink Parachute Project is a visual exploration of women's struggles in the face of gender adversity, and it features women posed in a 30 lb. pink-dyed 1967 British parachute against stunning environments meant to symbolize the subject matter.

The Pink Parachute Project is a study of feminism by fine art photographer Teodora Pogonat. Her juxtaposition of the beautifully fluid pink parachute against powerful and visually arresting backdrops represents Teodora's story of women's resilience in the face of adversity. Equal measures femininity and strength, the pink parachute symbolizes a female's ability to rise above and carry on, despite the societal forces that have traditionally tried to hold women back. Her images are styled to represents society's expectations of women – remain composed, serene, and "pretty" despite unrealistic societal expectations or limits created and perpetuated by a patriarchal society.

The project was photographed throughout Denver, Austin and Miami, areas that provided symbolic environments to represent these concepts. Denver's local landmarks that are represented include Union Station, Millennial Bridge and Red Rocks. Pogonat calls the Denver showing a homecoming for the project.

The Pink Parachute Project exhibit at the Black Crow Gallery in Denver is part of a larger tour, including Austin, Miami, and Los Angeles. Pogonat's mission with this photo series is two-fold: bring awareness to women's issues and the struggle for gender equality, as well as empower women by showcasing their strengths through imagery.

The Black Crow Gallery at 144 W. 12th Street is owned by Alexis McLean and features three artist studios and two intimate showrooms.
