WhyHotel to Bring Pop-Up Hotel Concept to Merriweather District® in Maryland

COLUMBIA, Md., Feb. 20, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- WhyHotel, an alternative lodging service that operates pop-up hotels in newly built, luxury apartment buildings, today announced plans to launch a new pop-up hotel within Juniper, the first apartment building located in the Merriweather District® in Downtown Columbia. Owned by The Howard Hughes Corporation® HHC, Juniper is located at 6000 Merriweather Drive, Columbia, MD and will include 70 WhyHotel units at its onset as it begins welcoming guests in April.

WhyHotel is a natural fit for the many residents and corporations that are considering Downtown Columbia's newest live, work, play neighborhood as an ideal relocation destination. With a burgeoning business community, the Merriweather District will now be able to provide group and business travelers with luxury pop-up hotel stays in a brand-new apartment building with a 24/7 onsite hospitality staff.

WhyHotel's roots are based in the DMV area with its headquarters in Washington, DC and three of its current pop-up hotels being in Virginia. The company, founded in 2017, secured a $20M+ Series B financing round in December of 2019, fueling its continued national expansion. In addition to the development of its pop-up product model, WhyHotel has also created a business unit, known as Hospitality Living, dedicated to building permanently flexible-use assets from the ground-up.
