While Dr. Shoshany has been a longtime provider of long axis traction, and spinal decompression, he recently decided to specifically add the Y-Strap adjustment as yet another tool in his vast array of treatments. He is aware of the online Y-Strap adjustment craze and wants to bring a more measured, practical approach to the technique, now so lauded for its newfound extreme status.

NEW YORK (PRWEB) January 20, 2020

The Y-Strap technique, on the surface, can be described as a Youtube fad popularized by some very extreme and visually jarring adjustment videos. Chiropractic adjustments have long been a very popular subject for videos on social media going back several years. It helps that everyone loves cracking their joints, feeling and hearing that audible release of what many feel is built-up tension. Some people even claim to be able to set their joints this way themselves. In reality, this is most likely a release of built-up gases often deposited by synovial fluid.

This latest chiropractic adjustment craze involves a longstanding instrument-assisted adjustment involving the neck, and it is called the Y-Strap adjustment. Traditionally this adjustment is called the Y-axis adjustment and it is specifically a Pettibon technique. Recently, Dr. Steven Shoshany made a Youtube video of his own use of the technique and found himself with thousands of views and dozens of questions.

While Dr. Shoshany has been a longtime provider of long axis traction, and spinal decompression, this month he decided to specifically add the Y-Strap adjustment as yet another tool in his vast array of treatments. He is aware of the online Y-Strap adjustment craze and wants to bring a more measured, practical approach to the technique, so lauded for its newfound extreme status.

"I've been getting a lot of calls and comments about the video, which is nice, but almost all of them are about how I'm not pulling hard enough." A concerned Dr. Shoshany stated. The most popular Y Strap adjustment videos involve a fairly strong, abrupt and what most chiropractors would admit is a violent pull on the neck. Usually, a long axis adjustment involves attaching a traction strap and pulling longitudinally using a specified amount of force for a few seconds. This pull can be followed up with a light pull at the end adding a few extra pounds of force. But the main principle is to decompress the discs in the neck slowly and deliberately using highly specific principles and conditions.

On social media, this popular chiropractic technique is almost often displayed with a very strong pull and dramatic reactions by relieved patients. The stronger the pull, the more reactions it attracts across social media. Dr. Shoshany, however, is reluctant to administer such a strong and admittedly dangerous procedure in order to get a reaction.

"I, and many other chiropractors do not think it's safe to adjust people like this. It's supposed to be gentle and you're supposed to follow up with more treatment. You can't really fix anything with one treatment, and the reactions people are seeing online are more than likely a result of your natural alarm reaction, as opposed to true relief. I'm sure a lot of people are getting temporary relief but that feeling of elation they're getting is due to experiencing and being relieved of, a very strong stimulant on a very sensitive part of their body. We do it differently at our Manhattan practice. We use multiple sessions, use ancillary treatments, and help patients make lifestyle changes that will result in long term pain relief. That is what we are in for, long term results with minimal risk to the patient." Whit this latest addition to his repertoire, Dr. Shoshany hopes to demystify and advance a longtime staple of ancillary chiropractic techniques.

While he is excited by the copious amount of traction the Y- Strap technique on social media, he also feels the need to educate and advance the increasingly diverse field of chiropractic. Dr. Shoshany lives and practices in Manhattan and currently celebrating his 23rd year providing a whole host of chiropractic and spinal decompression specialties for his NYC patients.
