The retired dermatologist and now children's book author E. Dorinda Shelley sparked off a round of fun and laughter with "The Helium Table" (PRGottBooks Publishing; 2010). The author teamed up with prolific children's book illustrator Eleanor A. Hutton and brings forth the lovable characters from the barn.

In "The Helium Table," the barnyard animals experience their first adventure out of the farm. Kath and her mother make the mistake of removing heavy medical books from a long unused dining room table. It is just what Kath's father had told them before – it is a helium table and the medical books were there to weight it down. Without them, the table floats out the front door.

The animals jump onto the table to hold it down, but to no avail. The table floats upwards into space, with the animals piled on it. Will they ever return home?

While being a funny and adventurous story, "The Helium Table" abounds with lessons on teamwork, friendship, and initiative. As such an imaginative story, it makes perfect bedtime reading.

Watch for the public display of E. Dorinda Shelley's "The Helium Table," along with "The Helium Egg" (book two) and Helium Heels (book three), at the upcoming 2019 National Council of Teachers of English on November 21-23, 2019 in Baltimore, MD.

About the Author
Dr. Shelley is a retired dermatologist. She grew up in Missouri, spending weekends on a farm with friendly horses. She, her husband, and three children lived for many years on a "farmette" in NW Ohio, surrounded by many of the animals in this story. This is the first in a series of books she has written and Eleanor Hutton has illustrated.
