What better way to express faith and devotion than through poetry and verse? Leelia Carolyn Cornell did just that with "In the Shadow of God's Love" (Christain Faith Publishing; 2018).

"In the Shadow of God's Love" is a collection of poems and stories about God's presence in everyday life as evident not only in special moments but also in life's sorrows, trials, triumphs, and even in the most mundane and funniest of life's events.

"'In the Shadow of God's Love' is a book written from my heart," said the author. "It speaks of my intimate relationship with God, through what one friend described, as love letters to God. It comes from all kinds of life situations happy times, joyous times, funny times, sad times, and tragic times and my hope in God in all things."

The book is divided into two sections; the first part contains poems that deal with faith and spirituality, and the second part focuses on the author's family and everyday life. She explains:

"The first section is divided into four parts. This section deals mostly with living a life walking with God amid human struggles and joys showing the unchangeable character of God and His promises to us in all our situations. It is written in deep insightful verse that causes one to think deeply. Most of these verses do not rhyme. The lines "rhyme" as their message relates to other lines like the way the Psalms are written. Some of the verses are scripture woven together to bring a message of hope.

The second section of the book is more personal. It consists of three parts. The first part has short stories about how God met my family and me in all kinds of situations. It's not about us, but about how God worked in our lives. Some stories are funny. There are a few poems in this section as well including funny ones. The second part is poems written while spending time in my meadow and how God speaks and shows His character through nature. The final part is also about being in nature. It takes place in very special woods that has been part of my life since I was three. There is something for everyone in this book.

Overall, God is the primary theme and focus of the author's poems and stories. "God is a very real, natural part of my life. It is not a religion or a doctrine for me.

"It's a personal relationship with my Father, my Beloved, my Kinsman Redeemer, and my Friend."
