VAUGHAN, ON, March 14, 2019 /CNW/ - Recruiting and retaining young people in skilled trades jobs is a huge issue for the Ontario construction industry. It's projected that the industry will need to recruit 103,900 workers between 2019 and 2028 because of retirements and increased demand for labour supply, according to BuildForce Canada.

Two reports and a video series will be launched to spearhead this issue accompanied by a panel discussion on key findings. The first report applies behavioural economics (BE) principles to recruitment in construction, including eight best-practice examples. The second report focuses on job satisfaction and Retaining Employees in the Skilled Trades (REST). The video series profiles construction workers and trades in the residential- and infrastructure-related sectors.

When: Tuesday, March 19, 2019, 7:30-10:30 a.m. Breakfast to be served. See agenda here.

Where: Toronto Region Board of Trade (TRBOT), First Canadian Place, Suite 350, 77 Adelaide Street West, Toronto (Lennox Hall East)

Who: The panel features Janet De Silva, TRBOT president and CEO; BE report author Lindsay McCardle; (from the video series) Julia Zahreddine of Bridgecon Construction Ltd.; and Patrick McManus of the Ontario Sewer and Watermain Construction Association. RESCON president Richard Lyall will provide opening remarks while BE report co-author Jason Stewart and REST author Dr. Jon Callegher will present their findings.
