Nevada Department of Corrections Locks in EfficientIP to Achieve Full Network Visibility

PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 26, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- EfficientIP, a leading provider of network security and automation solutions specializing in DDI (DNS-DHCP-IPAM), today announced the Nevada Department of Corrections (NDOC), a public safety government agency, has selected EfficientIP to improve their network visibility and control.

NDOC is responsible for the management of inmates in the state of Nevada and houses over 13,000 inmates across 17+ facilities. Partnering with other Nevada state and local programs for vocational training, educational opportunities and treatment services, the NDOC mission is to ensure a safe environment that incorporates rehabilitative services to individuals prior to reintegration. They are supported by 2,400 employees, 30 of which are IT staff. The NDOC IT team requires careful attention paid to all connected devices at a facility, for safety reasons. Everything from door locks to HVAC systems play an integral role in day-to-day functions, and their failure can result in very serious complications for inmates, staff and the public alike.

NDOC's growing number of servers required more effective network management, particularly due to half of their locations being stand alone and not integrated with the existing IPAM solution from their vendor at the time, Infoblox. They could no longer abide remote management failures, downtime and visibility issues. As a state-run facility with set budgets, NDOC needed an all-in-one solution that would allow them to grow without emptying their pockets.

With a set of requirements in mind, Daniel Erlendson, IT Manager, at NDOC helped lead the team to find a new solution. "We couldn't leave certain facilities flapping in the breeze," he explained. "We needed a solution that could support all of our facilities together, on Linux, onsite. Infoblox was also becoming far too expensive to maintain."

Erlendson and the team were impressed by the EfficientIP IPAM for Linux product, and the intuitive nature of the platform, noting how fast and easy it was to use. On top of a reduced total cost of ownership over Infoblox, non-IT staff no longer need to be involved in figuring out why a workstation wasn't functioning onsite at a particular facility.

NDOC experienced numerous benefits moving to the EfficientIP SOLIDserver™ platform, including:

  •     All camps and correctional centers viewed and controlled on the same centralized platform
  •     IP addresses always correct when moving a workstation from one location to another
  •     Newfound ease of finding IP addresses
  •     Superior search functionality to that which they had prior, with faster performance for certain tasks

David Williamson, CEO at EfficientIP, believes, "In an environment ruled by important daily responsibilities, it's crucial for a government agency such as NDOC to ensure the visibility and flexibility of their entire network. We're proud to be able to support their vital role in the state of Nevada. As connected devices increase and networks expand, we look forward to continuing our relationship together to fill further device discovery and DNS security needs to optimize and protect the network from potential threats."
