Sweet Megan Baking Company, known for tasty gluten and allergen-free snacks, expands distribution of its Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough On-the-Go into 800+ Wawa stores giving it national exposure. The healthy treats will be in stock by mid-February 2019.

Nurse Turned Baker Creates Allergen-free Snacks for Health-Conscious Foodies

Southampton, PA-based entrepreneur, Pattie Lerner, founder of Sweet Megan Baking company, was determined to find a healthy snack alternative for her daughter who was diagnosed with Celiac, an autoimmune disease.

Five years ago, she began baking gluten-free products in her home kitchen. Two years ago, Lerner launched a line of edible and bake-able cookie dough treats in a variety of flavors and sizes. By popular demand, this healthy, gluten-free certified snack is now available in all Wawa stores as a new single serve Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough On-the-Go.

"I'm on a mission to provide clean, fun food to everyone," says the nurse who has a background in nutrition. The expansion into Wawa stores helps her accomplish that goal. "I'm excited to be partnering with Wawa as our values are perfectly aligned."

More People Suffer from Food Allergies

According to the non-profit FARE, Food Allergy Research and Education, every three minutes a food allergy reaction sends someone to the emergency room. Researchers estimate that up to 15 million Americans have food allergies, including 5.9 million children under age 18.

Eight major food allergens are typically the culprits -- milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, soy, fish and shellfish.

Cookie Dough On-the-Go offers a healthy alternative. "Our products are gluten-free, top-8 allergen-free, vegan, kosher and safe to eat raw since there are no eggs and the flour is heat treated," says Lerner.

Produced in an allergen-free facility run by women entrepreneur co-packers

Sweet Megan products are made by a local co-packer in a dedicated gluten-free and top-8 allergen-free facility that is also SQF (Safe Quality Food) certified. While the space is shared, the equipment is not, unlike many food processing facilities today.

"We do everything to ensure a transparent, safe baking experience," says Michelle Carfagno, owner of The Greater Knead where Sweet Megan's cookie dough is produced. "You won't see the words, ‘processed on shared equipment' at our facility."

Pro Football Player Enjoys Healthy Cookie Dough On-the-Go

Arizona Cardinals' professional football player Justin Pugh was the original taste tester of the cookie dough product. Because he has food sensitivities, Justin is always looking for healthy and tasty options.

"Pattie's like a mad scientist, always cooking up a new concoction," says the 310 lb. athlete. "I'm brutally honest, and I knew the chocolate chip cookie dough would be a hit. The small cup is easy to travel with…the perfect gluten free treat."
