The Boston Society of Architects recognized architectural firm, ZeroEnergy Design, with a Sustainable Design Award for the Lincoln Net Positive Farmhouse project, a USGBC LEED Platinum certified green home that produces 67% more energy than it consumes.

LINCOLN, Mass. (PRWEB) January 21, 2019

The Lincoln Net Positive Farmhouse project - a successful collaboration between architectural firm ZeroEnergy Design and custom homebuilder Thoughtforms - was presented a Sustainable Design Award at the eighth Boston Society of Architects (BSA) Design Awards Gala in Boston. The BSA Design Awards Gala is the design community's highest celebration of great design and those who create it.

The winning project is a farmhouse style, all-electric home that consumes 70% less energy than a code-built house and produces 67% more energy than it consumes annually, making it ‘net positive'.

The BSA judging panel stated the "Lincoln Net Positive Farmhouse is an excellent example of what a new single family dwelling could – and should – look like, addressing food production and resiliency while delivering great metrics."

With open concept living and family areas, spacious rooms, high ceilings, and plenty of natural light, the Lincoln Net Positive Farmhouse in Lincoln, MA, is the perfect example of an energy efficient and healthy home that does not compromise on style, space or comfort. The firm's commitment to sustainability and green design is evidenced in the thick walls and roofs without thermal bridging, high-performance triple-glazed windows, high-efficiency water fixtures and appliances, a 13.1kW array of solar panels, energy recovery ventilator, energy monitoring system, and edible plantings.

The home is LEED Platinum certified by the USGBC and has received Zero Energy certification and a REVEAL label from the International Living Future Institute.

The projects in the Sustainable Design category are judged on the basis of contributions to an aesthetic compatible with sustainability, contributions to the environmental balance, energy efficiency, appropriate land use, minimal ecological impact, reuse of existing buildings or facilities, level of use of non-renewable resources in the construction of and during the life of the project, level of use of recycled or renewable materials, and/or excellence in integrating sustainable concepts with traditional design requirements.
