Women Veterans a Wealth of Untapped Talent in a Tight Labor Market

PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 20, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- With the unemployment rate at 3.7%, and with more jobs available than workers to fill them, employers are finding it difficult to find quality hires for their open positions. Employees are being asked to take on increased workloads as hiring managers struggle to find candidates. The labor market is getting tighter with each passing month, but there is one group of workers that more employers are turning to that is often overlooked, Women Veterans.

Women are the fastest growing segment in the military, comprising more than 14% of active duty forces, 18% of reserves, and over 9% of all current veterans. More than 280,000 women have served in Iraq and Afghanistan in often hostile environments. With the increased number of women serving in the military, it is only logical there will be an increased number of Women Veterans transitioning each year. Despite their service, training, education, and experience, many find it challenging to secure civilian employment after service.

Veteran Recruiting and a growing group of leading companies have teamed up to recruit and hire Women Veterans specifically through online and in-person career fairs. In 2018, more than 14,000 Women Veterans attended the virtual career fairs, and more than 1,600 were extended job offers.

Women Veterans are more likely to enter the civilian workforce than male veterans, and a higher percentage of women veterans have college degrees than their male counterparts or women non-veterans.
