Jack McCrossin, Chris Newcomb and Mike Santee accept Tri-State Bird Rescue & Research's 2018 Corporate Wildlife Stewardship Award on behalf of CITGO.

"We are truly honored to receive this award," said Rafael Gomez, CITGO vice president strategic shareholder relations, and government and public affairs. "Environmental support is a pillar of our corporate social responsibility program. Tri-State has been our partner in environmental protection for nearly 20 years and together we've made a real difference. We're proud to earn the recognition, but we couldn't have done it without organizations like Tri-State that work tirelessly to make our environment a better place to live."

Founded more than forty years ago, Tri-State Bird Rescue & Research is an internationally recognized and licensed nonprofit wildlife rehabilitation organization based out of Newark, Delaware. Its mission focuses on rehabilitating injured, orphaned and oiled native wild birds, with the goal of returning healthy birds to their natural environments. CITGO works with the organization to train personnel during worst case drills and for emergency response planning.

"We greatly appreciate the supporters like CITGO who make our work on behalf of native wildlife possible. This support ensures that we are trained, equipped, and ready to help wildlife in need at a moment's notice," said Lisa Smith, Tri-State's executive director.

Tri-State's annual Benefit for the Birds event raises money for rescue activities and celebrates dedicated corporate partners. This year's event – themed "Vintage Vegas" – raised money that will go toward funding and training the organization's 24/7 on-call oiled wildlife response team.
