During his 13-year professional baseball career, Van Slyke played in three All-Star games, won three Gold Glove Awards and two Silver Slugger Awards, and was ranked in the top 10 in many offensive categories. He then went on to serve as first base, outfield, and baserunning coach for the Detroit Tigers.
