PR Newswire

WASHINGTON, Oct. 22, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- This morning, the Superior Court of the District of Columbia granted final approval of the $14.25 million class action settlement arising from Rabbi Bernard Freundel's secret videotaping of females without their consent at the National Capital Mikvah facility in Washington, DC.

As directed by the Court, payments to Class Members will be issued by November 26, 2018. To be eligible to receive payment, Class Members must submit a brief Confidential Registration Form by November 13, 2018.

Females who were videotaped by Freundel are eligible to receive $25,000 each, and females who otherwise used the National Capital Mikvah and experienced emotional distress are eligible to receive $2,500 each. All Registered Class Members are eligible to receive an even larger total payment by completing a Confidential Claim Form. The Confidential Claim Form will be sent to Registered Class Members on November 26, 2018.

Sanford Heisler Sharp, LLP has been appointed by the Court as Class Counsel to represent Class Members.  David Sanford, founder of Sanford Heisler Sharp, said: "The Court's final approval of the $14.25 million class action settlement represents the beginning of closure for hundreds of Rabbi Freundel's victims. Judge Holeman's wisdom allowed the parties time to negotiate a fair resolution. And Judge Shuker's persistence and guidance made this settlement possible."

Alexandra Harwin, partner at Sanford Heisler Sharp, LLP and co-chair of the firm's National Title VII Practice, said: "With the Court's final approval of the $14.25 million class action settlement, the women victimized by Freundel will receive substantial and immediate compensation for what they have suffered."
