Novogradac to Honor Excellence in Historic Preservation and Rehabilitation

The Novogradac Journal of Tax Credits will Honor Development Teams in Nashville, Sept. 27

A former school in Colorado, the home of a historic piano company in Ohio and the longtime railway mail terminal for the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) in Nebraska are the winners of the Novogradac Journal of Tax Credits Historic Rehabilitation Awards, to be recognized Sept. 27 at the Novogradac Historic Tax Credit Conference in Nashville, Tenn.

A panel of judges, chosen for their industry expertise, selected three winners and three honorable mentions for their outstanding use of the historic tax credit (HTC) in the rehabilitation of historic properties.

"The annual Novogradac Journal of Tax Credits Historic Rehabilitation Awards always show how the program is flexible and effective in a wide variety of situations," said Michael Kressig, CPA, conference chairman and partner at Novogradac & Company LLP's St. Louis office. "This year's winners highlight how these developments make a difference in their communities."

Awardees were recognized in three categories:

•     Residential Development that Overcame Significant Obstacles

o    Winner: Fruitdale Lofts in Wheat Ridge, Colo.

•     Developer: Fruitdale School Partners LLC

o    Honorable mention: Millworks Lofts in Plymouth, Minn.

•     Developer: Dominium
•     Residential Development that Best Exemplifies Major Community Impact

o    Winner: The Baldwin in Cincinnati

•     Developers: CASTO and Neyer Properties

o    Honorable mention: Woolen Mills Lofts in Appleton, Wis.

•     Keystone Development and Alliance Housing Development
•     Non-Residential Development that Best Exemplifies Major Community Impact

o    Winner: Rail & Commerce Building in Omaha, Neb.

•     Developer: Boyd Jones Construction

o    Honorable mention: Curtiss-Wright Hanger in Columbia, S.C.

•     Developer: Hangar Preservation Development LLC
