The MulteFire Alliance, an international association dedicated to
building a global ecosystem in support of mobile cellular technology in
unlicensed and shared spectrum, and the Alliance of Industrial Internet
(AII), a joint effort of industrial sectors to accelerate the
development of industrial Internet, have announced that they have signed
a Memorandum of Understanding to explore LTE connectivity for the
industrial internet. A signing ceremony took place on September 1 at the
2018 Yangtze River Delta Industrial Internet Summit in Shanghai.
Together, the MulteFire Alliance and AII will advance MulteFire™
technology operation in the industrial internet as well as harmonize
various aspects of connectivity.

"Wireless technology could be deployed flexibly and reduce wiring costs.
Robust wireless connectivity is important to the transformation of the
manufacturing industry in China and abroad, and it is a major component
for the industrial internet," said Xiaohui Yu, General Secretary, AII.
"We believe that MulteFire is a critical technology for enabling
industrial IoT, and we look forward to collaborating with the MulteFire
Alliance."

"The MulteFire Alliance believes that private LTE networks for
industrial IoT and enterprise are prime use cases that will benefit from
MulteFire technology, and we welcome this collaboration with AII to
advance our vision for deploying LTE and next-gen cellular technology in
unlicensed and shared spectrum," said Mazen Chmaytelli, President,
MulteFire Alliance, and Sr. Director Business Development, Qualcomm
Technologies, Inc. "Working together, we can help make commercial
deployment of MulteFire for industrial IoT use cases in China and around
the world a reality."

The MulteFire Alliance and AII will collaborate on the following:

  • Test beds and research and development projects
  • Coordinate in promoting the industrial internet industry and standards
  • Establish a good understanding of how to deploy cellular technologies
in unlicensed and shared spectrum for industrial internet use cases
