WASHINGTON, Aug. 30, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Federation of Government Employees today announced its endorsement of Mark MacKenzie for the U.S. House of Representatives for New Hampshire's First Congressional District.

The American Federation of Government Employees, the nation's largest union representing federal workers, has endorsed Mark MacKenzie for the U.S. House of Representatives for New Hampshire's First Congressional District.

"Mark MacKenzie has been a card-carrying, dues-paying union member for his entire working life. We can count on him to represent us in Congress because he is one of us," AFGE District 2 National Vice President Vincent Castellano said.

"For more than four decades, Mark MacKenzie has fought for working people in Manchester and across the state – as a member and officer with the International Association of Firefighters, as the president of the New Hampshire AFL-CIO for longer than any other state president, and most recently as a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives," Castellano said.

"He has defeated anti-worker 'right-to-work' legislation 17 times and amassed an impressive record of wins for New Hampshire's working people, including increasing the minimum wage, improving public-sector pension benefits, guaranteeing COLA adjustments for public employees, reforming the workers' compensation system, and achieving equal pay legislation," Castellano said. "It's time to send Mark MacKenzie to Washington so he can keep fighting for working people in southeastern New Hampshire and across the country."

More than 7,600 federal employees live in New Hampshire – caring for veterans, supporting the military, ensuring the safety of the flying public, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time. There are nearly 19,000 active and retired federal employees in the First Congressional District.

AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing 700,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. District 2 represents more than 45,000 employees in Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont.

The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) is the largest federal employee union, representing 700,000 workers in the federal government and the government of the District of Columbia.
