Mendix Joins Major League Hacking to Bring No-Code Application Development Workshops to University Students

The No-Code App Building with Mendix Workshop enables students with little or no coding experience to build working apps in 2 hours at on-campus hackathons

PR Newswire

BOSTON, Aug. 30, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Mendix, the fastest and easiest platform to create and continuously improve mobile and web applications, today announced a partnership with Major League Hacking (MLH) to provide access to training and resources for students to build applications using the Mendix low-code platform through the MLH Localhost technical workshop program during on campus hackathons.

This collaboration is the latest offering from the Mendix University Program which aims to provide students and professors the technology and knowledge to build working apps on campus. The goal of this Mendix University Program partnership with MLH Localhost is to provide free hands-on learning opportunities to professors and students across the globe to gain the skills needed to succeed in a software-driven world.

"We had the opportunity to partner with Mendix for a student-led hackathon and it was a great experience," said Professor Dominic Thomas at Suffolk University. "Using low-code made it possible for students who didn't have any coding background as well as those who are proficient with traditional coding to actually build a functioning application in a matter of hours. It helped to break down a perceived barrier of the level of know-how needed to build custom applications and excite students of all skills and backgrounds about developing applications to solve specific problems."

As part of the No-Code App Building with Mendix Workshop, MLH Localhost provides student organizers with all the materials needed to plan and deliver the workshop themselves. Student attendees are given a use-case to build an application that could be used to organize a charitable event on-campus. By the end of the 2-hour workshop, participants will have a fully deployed and working web and mobile app. Students and Professors from all universities are invited to host a MLH Localhost Workshop using Mendix, joining 15 other universities already slated for the Fall 2018 semester.

"MLH Localhost is a great program because we enable emerging developers from all over the world to gain new skills," shares Jamie Wittenberg, Product Manager for MLH Localhost. "I'm especially passionate about empowering those who don't have  coding experience to be able to make and create applications. The No-Code App Building with Mendix workshop lowers barriers of creating and making applications for our entire community."

Mendix makes technology and resources free for professors and students
Mendix University Program provides professors free curriculum resources and free Mendix technology licenses so educators can create exciting classroom experiences for students. Now, with this Mendix MLH Localhost workshop, professors can also enrich their students' learning experiences beyond the classroom.

"Students are looking for ways to advance their learning outside the classroom and engage their on-campus communities," said Julie Kukesh, Director of Education Programs at Mendix. "That's why we're excited to partner with Major League Hacking to offer a program that gives students of all backgrounds the skills to leverage technology to turn ideas into outcomes."
