Accountable Care Learning Collaborative and Leading Provider Organizations Respond to Calls for Value-Based Transformation of US Health Care

PR Newswire

SALT LAKE CITY, Aug. 28, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the Accountable Care Learning Collaborative (ACLC) is pleased to release ten new Case Study Briefs (CSBs) in partnership with leading provider organizations – including Mayo Clinic, Ascension, and Montefiore Health System – each offering a concise, tactical account of a value-based solution successfully implemented. The recent announcement of major changes to Medicare's landmark accountable care organization (ACO) initiative – the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) – accelerating the path to downside risk, confirms federal officials' call for a more concerted transition to value. These changes intensify the need for guidance on how providers can rise to the challenge of alternative payment models – and fast.

Using the framework of the Competency Atlas, the CSBs provide concrete, real-world examples providers can follow to succeed under risk-based payment models and deliver high-value care.

"If we are to solve our health care crisis we need to move boldly to reimbursement models that reward managing the health of populations, with innovative solutions that allow physicians to practice at the intersection of quality and efficiency. This can only occur through the leveraging of best practices. The ACLC CSBs offer an invaluable resource to help providers of all types accelerate their journey towards value-based care," said Ken Cohen M.D., Chief Medical Officer of ACLC member and two-time CSB contributor New West Physicians.

Each CSB describes how one provider organization successfully implemented a single competency, including solutions, tools and vendor partners, challenges with implementation, and results to date. These concise accounts give provider leaders the opportunity to learn from the experiences of others in the industry. Over time, the ACLC is building a robust public library of standardized CSBs with a myriad of competency-specific and comparable industry solutions across a variety of provider types, markets, and maturity levels.

"We've had a tremendously positive response to our first cohort of CSBs and are eager to bring more of these practical, digestible resources to the highest levels of leadership across the U.S. We believe such resources will inform c-suite level conversations and help bridge the conversations happening throughout organizations – the conversations required for true organizational transformation," said WGU President Scott D. Pulsipher.

The ACLC is encouraging all providers to come forward and share their successful solutions by being profiled in future CSBs.
