AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Electric Cooperatives (TEC) leadership recently announced an alliance with Bryan Texas Utilities (BTU), the Lone Star State's fifth-largest municipally-owned electric utility. BTU reaches beyond Bryan, serving customers in rural and urban areas and bringing parts of three counties into the area already served by TEC alliance partnerships.

"This is an important alliance for TEC," said Johnny Andrews, chief operating officer of TEC Manufacturing & Distribution Services. "The alliance partnership initiative was built around the idea of strengthening consumer-owned utilities in an increasingly competitive market. TEC looks forward to working with BTU to maximize the opportunities that this partnership can bring to both organizations."

BTU currently provides power to over 58,000 meters using nearly 2,300 miles of overhead and underground distribution line, as well as 186 miles of transmission line. As a municipally-owned utility, BTU has a special relationship with its customers, going the extra mile to emphasize transparency and accessibility, while giving them access to information that helps them make smart utility decisions. BTU's many services include AMI metering, remote connect and disconnect abilities, online daily consumption graphs, resources for customers interested in solar power, and programs for homes and businesses. Informational resources include tips for smart energy usage and guidelines for builders.

"Our staff takes pride in providing exceptional customer service, high reliability, and low rates to benefit the citizens of Bryan," says Gary Miller, general manager of BTU. "This alliance with TEC, along with all of the other services they offer their members, will help us better serve our community."

The agreement with BTU marks TEC's 25th alliance partnership, and the third new alliance announced in 2018. "Partnerships strengthen everyone involved," Andrews explained. "Each new alliance increases the negotiating power of the groups who are already partners. It's something that has direct and concrete benefits for all our members."

In addition to other valuable services that TEC provides its customers, the alliance supply model is fundamental because it immediately reduces operational and redundant costs, producing an immediate benefit for each customer's bottom line. Leveraging the aggregation and scale that alliance partnerships create, TEC makes high-quality products from leading manufacturers available at competitive prices. TEC is proud to be able to pass those savings on to its customers.
