Youth Leadership Workshop at the RCMP Academy

Canada NewsWire

OTTAWA, Aug. 20, 2018 /CNW/ - This week, selected teens from across Canada will have an opportunity at the RCMP Academy in Regina, Saskatchewan, to learn how to make their communities safer.

The RCMP is hosting a Youth Leadership Workshop from August 20 to 26, 2018, for 16 grades 9 to 12 students, each accompanied by an RCMP employee from their community. During the workshop, youth will participate in interactive educational sessions on topics such as bullying, road safety, healthy relationships, substance misuse and sexual consent. Participants will also work with RCMP employees to develop an action plan to help address a youth crime or victimization issue in their community. When they return home, youth will work to implement these action plans with support from the RCMP.

Quote

"Being given the opportunity to learn from youth allows us to work better as partners and to develop initiatives that are specific to the needs of the youth in our community. As members, we are amazed at the ideas youth develop. We feel empowered to work with them to implement their ideas in the community – the drive and compassion they show is amazing."

- Constable Stephanie Leduc, February 2018 workshop participant, Northwest Territories
