U-Haul News, the print and online magazine produced by and for U-Haul since 1953, recently received the Gold Quill Award of Excellence presented by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC).

U-Haul accepted the award at the IABC World Conference this summer in Montreal.

The Gold Quill Awards have honored excellence in strategic communications for more than 40 years. The IABC awards committee selected 258 entries as "world class." Winners came from all over, representing a cross section of public and private organizations, both large and small.

"U-Haul News is a significant component of our internal communications strategy," said Tom Prefling, director of U-Haul Internal Communications. "It is gratifying to see that the quality of work by our team has been recognized by its international peers."

IABC Gold Quill judges noted U-Haul News exhibited strong writing and detailed formatting and design efforts, declaring it a point of pride for the Company.

"Only exceptional work earns an IABC Gold Quill Award," stated Cindy Schmieg, chair of the awards committee. "The winners represent our profession of ethical practitioners contributing to organizational outcomes."

Since the first U-Haul News issue was published in 1953, the magazine has been encouraging Team Members, neighborhood dealers and their families to enhance their pride in being part of U-Haul.

With a circulation of 50,000, U-Haul News extends throughout the U.S. and Canada. The diverse audience includes Team Members and dealers at more than 21,000 retail locations; technicians at U-Haul repair shops; welders and assemblers at U-Haul manufacturing plants; engineers at the U-Haul Technical Center in Tempe; and executives at the U-Haul Midtown Campus in Phoenix.

"We congratulate all the Gold Quill Award winners for their work and dedication to excellence in strategic communication," said Stephanie Doute, executive director of IABC. "Their success is a testament to the fact that professional communicators create solid business outcomes for their organizations."
