TORONTO, Aug. 15, 2018 /CNW/ - The International Association of Business Communicators Canada (IABC Canada) has named Sue Heuman, ABC of Edmonton, Cyrus Mavalwala, ABC of Toronto and Judith Sparkes, ABC of Calgary as this year's recipients of the prestigious Master Communicator designation.

The IABC Master Communicator designation is the association's highest honour in Canada. It recognizes outstanding career achievements; contributions to the communications profession; thought leadership, teaching and writing in communications; service and leadership in IABC; and, overall contributions to the community. Master Communicators are nominated and selected by their peers.

"Sue, Cyrus and Judith are accomplished communicators, thought leaders and dedicated volunteers both with IABC and in their communities," said Lynn Barter, ABC, MC and Chair of the 2018 Master Communicator Selection Committee. "They exemplify the best of the profession and are most deserving of this recognition."

Sue Heuman is an accredited authority on organizational communications, who brings her more-than-35-years' experience to the clients she serves. Since co-founding Focus Communications in 2002, Sue has been a senior strategist and executive advisor, helping clients define, understand, and achieve their communications objectives. She developed, and has delivered, a half-dozen communications-related training programs for executives and middle managers.  A long-time IABC volunteer, she has contributed at the international level for more than 20 years. She is a past IABC Director of Accreditation Exams, Past Chair of the IABC Chapter Relations Task Force, and Past Chair of the IABC Global Communication Certification Council. She is currently serving on IABC's Foundation Fundraising Committee. She is the 2016 recipient of IABC's Rae Hamlin Award and was IABC Edmonton's Communicator of the Year in 2016.

Judith Sparkes is a seasoned professional with a passion for delivering strategic communication that adds value to organizations. Currently the General Manager of Communications at Suncor Energy, she has over 20 years' experience working in a variety of sectors – government, non-profit and corporate – and disciplines within Communications and Human Resources. Judith's contributions to the communications profession include volunteering on, and serving as, president of the Calgary IABC chapter.  She has been guest speaker, lecturer and presenter at various conferences and currently instructs in Mount Royal University's continuing education faculty in the Public Relations certificate program.

Cyrus Mavalwala is a communication strategist, trainer and speaker who has been helping organizations achieve their business objectives for 25 years. An active IABC member, Cyrus has volunteered at the local, regional and international levels. In 2002, Cyrus founded Advantis Communications, a communication agency that delivers measurable value to B2B organizations across Canada and the USA. Advantis' work in PR, video and social media has earned multiple Gold Quill, Silver Leaf, Silver Quill and OVATIONS awards. Cyrus also co-founded Act Like An Agency to train communicators on how to evolve from tacticians to strategists within their organization. At the University of Toronto School for Continuing Studies, Cyrus was one of the founding course developers and instructors of the popular Social Media Strategy and Communications Management Certificate.
