WALNUT CREEK, Calif., Aug. 14, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Leading business and financial news publication Barron's has pegged Walnut Creek, Calif.-based Destination Wealth Management and its CEO as one of the leading financial advisors in the United States.

In an effort to connect its readers and the public at large, with accomplished and proven financial advisors throughout the country, the Dow Jones & Company-published Barron's* has ranked advisors since 2004. This year, Barron's has unveiled an interactive map — found at — that makes it easier to sort through ranked advisors in each respective state.

Destination Wealth Management's Founder and CEO, Michael Yoshikami, is featured prominently in this year's directory and can be veiwed at

"I'm appreciative to be included in this financial advisor directory. I greatly respect Barron's and hope this resource is useful to those seeking advice," Michael Yoshikami, CEO of DWM, stated in response to this announcement.

Yoshikami founded his independent firm, which provides fee-based wealth management services, in 1986. He has been on the radar for Barron's for nearly a decade, named to the Top 100 Independent Financial Advisors list every year from 2009 to 2017.

All advisor rankings are based on a series of numbers, including an advisor's assets under management and annual revenue generated, as well as the length of time in the business, client retention and philanthropic work. The publication also carefully checks the regulatory record of each advisor.

Barron's has a long history of identifying the "who's who" of the financial advisor industry. The publication first unveiled its Top 100 Advisors list in 2004 and added a Top 100 Women Advisors list in 2006. In 2007, Barron's added their Top 100 Independent Advisors category.

Then, in an effort to profile accomplished advisors that were based outside of the country's largest cities, Barron's pivoted to a top 1,000 state-by-state ranking, which was first published in 2009 and expanded in 2014 to include 1,200 advisors.

*Michael Yoshikami was included in Barron's 2017 "Top 100 Independent Wealth Advisors". The criteria for ranking reflects assets under management, revenue that the advisors generate for their firms, and the quality of the advisor's practices. Investment performance is not a component of the rankings because an advisor's returns are dictated largely by the risk tolerance of advisors' clients. The quality of practice component includes an evaluation of each advisor's regulatory record. The scoring system assigns a top score of 100 and rates the rest by comparing them with the top-ranked advisor. Mr. Yoshikami was nominated for inclusion in the list. There are over 100 nominations, but only 100 published ranking spots. Barron's uses a proprietary method to rank advisors based on the criteria above. Destination Wealth Management provides this data to Barron's in the form of a survey response. Initial ranking is done by Barron's; publicly available data is verified by Barron's via regulatory databases, crosschecks with securities firms and conversations with individual advisors. No payment was required for nomination or inclusion in the ranking. After receiving notice of inclusion in the top 100 ranking list, Destination Wealth Management (DWM) paid Dow Jones & Company for glossy reprints of the piece and inclusion in their directory. DWM also paid Dow Jones through RightsLink for permission to link to a Dow Jones WebReprint to our corporate website; and DWM paid an advertising fee to maintain a profile on the financial advisor guide of the Barron's directory website ( No organizational memberships were required of DWM or individuals. Ranking on this list is not representative of any one client's experience and is not indicative of DWM's future performance. DWM is not aware of any facts that would call into question the validity of the ranking or the appropriateness of advertising inclusion in this list.
