WARRENDALE, Pa., Aug. 7, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- SAE International invites members of the mobility engineering community to participate in the SAE Additive Manufacturing Webinar: Considerations When Integrating Additive Manufacturing into Aerospace and Ground Vehicle Development and Production Environments on August 16, 2018 at 1:00 PM EST. Moderated by Audra Ziegenfuss (Senior Global Product Manager, SAE International), the in-depth discussion will be led by guest speakers Dr. John Hart (Director, Center for Additive and Digital Advanced Production Technologies (ADAPT) at MIT), Bill Harris (Technical Fellow, Lockheed Martin), and Adam Rivard (Additive Manufacturing Director, LAI International, Inc.), boasting a combined 65+ years of valuable engineering experience, knowledge, and expertise.

The aerospace and ground vehicle mobility industry's trusted source for advanced manufacturing information and resources, SAE International seeks to educate webinar participants about the exciting new technologies surrounding additive manufacturing. Topics to be addressed over the course of the webinar include:

  • How additive manufacturing is expected to impact the aerospace and automotive industries as the field advances
  • Risks associated in introducing flight-critical additive manufacturing parts
  • The anticipated timeline for general acceptance of additive manufacturing parts by aerospace customers
  • Key business and technical considerations from the OEM perspective related to becoming a supplier of additively manufactured products
  • Novel additive manufacturing methods translatable to aerospace and automotive

"SAE International is looking forward to the additive manufacturing intelligence that Dr. Hart, Mr. Harris, and Mr. Rivard have to share," says Frank Menchaca, SAE International's Chief Product Officer. "By bringing together thought leaders representing the perspectives of academia and industry, we hope to provide greater, more well-rounded insight for the mobility engineering community."

Dr. John Hart is Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Director of the Laboratory for Manufacturing and Productivity, and Director of the Center for Additive and Digital Advanced Production Technologies (ADAPT) at MIT. Hart's research group, the Mechanosynthesis Group, aims to accelerate the science and technology of advanced manufacturing in areas including additive manufacturing, nanostructured materials, and the integration of computation and automation in process discovery. He has co-founded three advanced manufacturing startup companies and launched the world's first massive open online course on manufacturing processes (MIT 2.008x on edX). Hart has been recognized by prestigious awards from the United States NSF, ONR, AFOSR, DARPA, ASME, and SME; by two R&D 100 awards; and most recently by the MIT Ruth and Joel Spira Award for Distinguished Teaching in Mechanical Engineering and the MIT Keenan Award for Innovation in Undergraduate Education.

Bill Harris is a Lockheed Martin Technical Fellow specializing in Manufacturing Technology. He has 46 years of industry experience, with 34 years served at Sikorsky Aircraft, a Lockheed Martin company. Harris has led domestic and international manufacturing technology programs related to sand casting, friction stir welding, high speed machining, and additive manufacturing. He is a member of the Manufacturing Processes and Technology Committee for the Vertical Flight Society, an instructor for the Sikorsky Helicopter Principles program, and a mentor for the Sikorsky STEM Challenge. He holds a master's degree in management of technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in manufacturing engineering, both from Fairfield University.

Adam Rivard is the Additive Manufacturing Director at LAI International, Inc., the world's first NADCAP accredited additive manufacturing supplier for aerospace, defense, industrial, and medical applications. In this role, he is responsible for the strategy, execution, and growth of the metal additive manufacturing business. Rivard also serves on the leadership team for the SAE International committee on Additive Manufacturing and is the Chairman of the Processes subcommittee. Prior to LAI, Rivard was the Technology Manager for the Additive Manufacturing Group at Pratt & Whitney, responsible for the identification, development, and validation of new technologies in the additive manufacturing space. He holds a Bachelor's of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an MBA from Indiana University.
