Government of Canada awards contract to GeoSpectrum Technologies Inc. of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

DARTMOUTH, NS, Aug. 7, 2018 /CNW/ - The Government of Canada is committed to providing the women and men of the Royal Canadian Navy with the equipment they need to carry out their important work on behalf of Canadians.

Today, Darren Fisher, Member of Parliament for Dartmouth-Cove Harbour, on behalf of the Honourable Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Public Services and Procurement and Accessibility, announced that GeoSpectrum Technologies Inc., based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, was awarded a $3,435,625-contract to provide replacement parts for hydrophone sonars currently being used on the Royal Canadian Navy's Victoria-class submarines.

The company was recently granted the rights by Lockheed Martin to produce parts for hydrophones, which are underwater microphones designed to detect subaquatic sounds.

This contract will support the Royal Canadian Navy's ability to effectively detect threats to Canada's coastal regions, while enhancing regional economic growth in Nova Scotia.

  • With these spare parts, the new hydrophones will be connected to the existing Passive Ranging System enabling them to locate, track and classify underwater contacts.
