SCHAUMBURG, Ill., Aug. 7, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Sandy Burgess will retire at the end of 2018 after 23 years with the law firm Meltzer, Purtill & Stelle, following 7 years with the Schaumburg office of a national firm that spun off in January 1996 to become MPS.

Sandy began in an administrative capacity, soon moving up to manage the Schaumburg office. When MPS was formed, she became the firm's Administrator, a position that evolved into the role of Chief Operating Officer.

Brian Meltzer recalls, "In 1989, we hired Sandy to be our receptionist.  We soon recognized her talent for relating to people and navigating the challenges of a growing law office and promoted Sandy to office manager. Together we worked to build MPS into the firm our clients wanted and deserved, including opening a downtown Chicago office, where half of the firm's lawyers now work."

In 2012 Sandy helped implement a smooth leadership transition as the managing partner for 16 years, Brian Meltzer, turned over that role to Bill Mitchell, the firm's current managing partner.

Mitchell notes, "Sandy let me put my own spin on the job, while training me to continue the trajectory she and Brian started, concentrating in the areas of law that we do best."

Mitchell adds, "Sandy has been a steadying force in building and maintaining our loyal, motivated staff, many of whom have been with us since we founded the firm. She made sure we stayed focused on doing that which we do exceptionally well and not getting too big. As she expresses it, being not too big...that's big!"

Sandy will leave a legacy that will be hard to follow, as she actively participates in the search for the person who will be her successor as Chief Operating Officer.  For the right candidate, this is a unique opportunity to become an integral part of a solid, well established firm whose culture welcomes young thinking blended with time-honored values of hard work and client focused service.

Everyone at Meltzer, Purtill and Stelle is grateful to Sandy for helping the firm attain its respected position. All wish her the best as she moves onto her next chapter that we know she will pursue with the skill, passion and attention to detail that are her trademarks.

MPS, and Sandy, are interested in learning about likely Chief Operating Officer candidates.  Anyone with suggestions about filling this position is invited to contact Sandy Burgess, Chief Operating Officer, Meltzer Purtill and Stelle.
