CANCUN, Mexico, Aug. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- From November 17-18, the 10th edition of the Xel-Há Triathlon will welcome 1,800 competitors across the Sprint, Youth, Women Beginners and Olympic categories. For the fifth consecutive year, the Mexican Triathlon Federation has chosen Xel-Há as the venue for the National Triathlon Championship.

The Xel-Há Triathlon began as a way to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Xel-Há Park. A decade later, it's evolved into something more: Not only is the race a national championship, but it's also emblematic of Mexico itself. Thanks to its excellent organization and spectacular scenery, the Xel-Há Triathlon has been recognized by athletes as one of the most beautiful events in the Mexican Republic.

Registration for the general public and Women Beginners category will take place from August 21 to September 18. Additionally, registration for the Red Cross Benefit Dinner will run from August 8 to September 29. Enrollment for top athletes — podium finishers in each category of the 2017 Xel-Há Triathlon and the 2017 National Triathlon Circuit, as well as competitors from the 2018 National Circuit who have qualified for the Goal Coast Triathlon World Championship 2018— will open from August 8 to August 18.

By committing to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, the Xel-Há Triathlon and the Mexican Triathlon Federation (FMTRI) reaffirmed their intention to promote the triathlon as a green sport whose objective is to make the community aware of the appropriate, sustainable use of resources.

To further those goals, the 10th edition of the Xel-Há Triathlon will adopt various environmentally friendly measures: These include the use of chemical-free sunblock; separation of inorganic waste for recycling; collection of bicycle inner tubes for re-use; composting of organic waste; collection of swimming caps for donation to schools; and donation of all registration fees to Flora, Fauna and Culture of Mexico, AC.

Irving Perez, David Mendoza and Arturo Garza won the 2017 Xel-Há Triathlon's Men's Elite division, while Cecilia Pérez, Maira Castañeda and Fabiola Corona won the Women's Elite category.
