Innovative concept offering 65 affordable housing units in Saint-Jérôme

SAINT-JÉRÔME, QC, Aug. 2, 2018 /CNW/ - The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, and Lise Thériault, Minister responsible for Consumer Protection and for Housing and Minister responsible for the Lanaudière region are happy to mark the completion of Cité Les Trois R, an innovative housing project in Saint-Jérôme. The project provides 65 affordable housing units for families, semi-independent seniors and people living with an intellectual disability.

The construction of this project, which required investments of close to $13 million, is an initiative of the non-profit organization Cité Les Trois R. The building contains four bachelor units, 45 one-bedroom units, 10 two-bedroom units and 6 three-bedroom units.

Cité Les Trois R provides affordable housing in a safe and warm living environment. Tenants have access to a multipurpose room and living room, which can be used for family gatherings. They can also get together to participate in communal activities in the horticultural greenhouse, for example.

Highlights

  • Through Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) and the Société d'habitation du Québec (SHQ), the governments of Canada and Quebec provided more than $4.5 million for the construction of this housing project, under the Investment in Affordable Housing Agreement.
  • The City of Saint-Jérôme contributed close to $1.2 million for the development of this project.More than $740,000 in additional financial assistance over five years, assumed by the SHQ (90%) and the City of Saint-Jérôme (10%), enables the tenants of 43 of the 65 units to benefit from the Rent Supplement program, ensuring that they will not have to put more than 25% of their income toward housing.
  • An amount of $129,365 was granted by Transition énergétique Québec to ensure that the building would meet Novoclimat certification standards.
  • Caisse Desjardins de Saint-Antoine-des-Laurentides contributed $65,000 toward the development of this project.
  • Through CMHC's Seed Funding program, the project received a $5,000 contribution and a loan of over $9,700.
