As health care costs continue to rise, consumers are bearing more of the burden. Fortunately, Clarity offers a Health Reimbursement Arrangement Plan (HRA) to assist employers in controlling health insurance costs while helping consumers pay for additional medical expenses.

Employers pay for HRAs to help employers save money by paying for various types of out-of-pocket expenses such as copays and deductibles. This shift to consumer-driven healthcare also helps employers conserve cash since they pay directly for certain expenses rather than through increased premiums from the insurance company.

The employer funds the HRA by setting aside a specific amount of pre-tax dollars in an account to pay for expenses that are not reimbursed by the employer's health insurance, which helps employees with their daily expenses.

These accounts are a flexible tool designed to assist employers and employees with controlling healthcare costs. HRAs can be set up to pay for copayments, deductibles, coinsurance, prescriptions, and other costs. Plus, the dollar amount and payment schedule can vary based on the plans. Additionally, unlike employer contributions to an HSA plan, unused HRA funds are the property of the employer, and unused monies can either be rolled over to the new plan year or forfeited.

There are several HRA plan designs available:

  • HRA With Employee Deductible – The company sets an out of pocket limit that the employee will incur before the HRA starts to pay for expenses. Once the employees out of pocket limit is met the HRA will cover future deductible expenses with no need for you to pay out-of-pocket until your HRA is exhausted.
  • Percent-Based HRA – The HRA has been designed to reimburse employees for a percentage of healthcare expenses until the HRA has been exhausted.
  • Clarity Quick Claim – Clarity Quick Claim links the employee's health plan to their HRA account. When the employee has an eligible expense for the Clarity HRA, Clarity automatically creates a claim, populate it with insurance data, and processes it. The entire process is automated.
