TROIS-RIVIÈRES, QC, Aug. 1, 2018 /CNW/ - Trifluvia was officially opened today in Trois-Rivières. The building features 27 affordable second-stage housing units for single-parent families and people in the process of returning to the job market or going back to school. The development of this project, which required investments of over $7 million, is an initiative of the Office municipal d'habitation de Trois-Rivières (OMHTR).

The announcement was made by the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities and Member of Parliament for Saint-Maurice−Champlain, on behalf of the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation; Lise Thériault, Minister responsible for Consumer Protection and for Housing and Minister responsible for the Lanaudière region; Jean-Denis Girard, Vice-Chair of the Committee on Public Administration, Member of the Office of the National Assembly and Member for Trois-Rivières; and Ginette Bellemare, Deputy Mayor of Trois-Rivières.

Located near many services, the building comprises 3 one-bedroom and 24 two-bedroom units. Part of Trifluvia's ground floor houses the head office of the OMHTR, and tenants have access to a multipurpose room that is shared with the office's staff.

Highlights

  • Through Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) and the Société d'habitation du Québec (SHQ), the governments of Canada and Quebec provided more than $2 million for the construction of this housing project, under the Investment in Affordable Housing Agreement.
  • The City of Trois-Rivières provided over $330,000 for the development of this project.
  • Close to $465,000 in additional financial assistance over five years, assumed by the SHQ (90%) and the City of Trois-Rivières (10%), will enable all of the building's tenants to benefit from the Rent Supplement program, ensuring that they will not have to put more than 25% of their income toward housing.
  • Trifluvia received additional financial assistance of nearly $391,000 through the SHQ's Rénovation Québec program.
  • The Ministère du Développement durable, de l'Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques provided close to $347,000 to equip the building with a green roof and a parking lot that limits the heat island effect.
  • An amount of over $75,000 was granted by Transition énergétique Québec to ensure that the building would meet Novoclimat certification standards.
  • The Caisse Desjardins Laviolette in Trois-Rivières provided $54,000 for the development of this project.
