ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. (PRWEB) August 20, 2018

A New York-based brother and sister duo has released their debut juvenile fiction book, which puts forth an entertaining fantasy story of a young prince and princess who undertake a perilous quest to save their dying kingdom, Alestria, from the curse of an evil dragon.

In "Challenge of the Dragon," authors Joan and David Merkin unravel the story of Prince Valerian and Princess Alisia who, following the death of their mother and Alestria's late queen, are tasked by their father, the brave King Vladimir, with investigating a mysterious black cloud that has shrouded their once beautiful kingdom, killing their people's crops and plaguing the land with disease.

Using two enchanted golden rings given to them by the queen on her deathbed that allow them the power to shapeshift, the twins, flanked by their tiger Shirekan, must confront a sinister and powerful dragon named Terresca and put a stop to his trickery once and for all.

"The Merkins deliver a wonderful fantasy adventure based on the triumph of good over evil," a reviewer for the U.S. Review of Books wrote about the book. "Using the experiences of Valerian and Alisia throughout their journey and where they fight together, the authors emphasize that unity in the face of danger guarantees victory."

Easy to read and peppered with colorful, kid-friendly illustrations, "Challenge of the Dragon" presents young readers with a fantastical tale about the importance of trusting in others and working together and the immense power that friendship holds in times of strife.
