Ohio Virtual Academy Welcomes Back Students for 2018-2019 School Year on August 20

Online Public School Prepares Students Statewide for College and

Students and teachers at Ohio
Virtual Academy
(OHVA) will start the 2018-2019 school year on
August 20. A full-time, tuition free online public school, OHVA is open
to students in Kindergarten through 12th grade throughout the state.

"We are excited to welcome our students for the new school year at OHVA,
where our online learning platform is enhanced by our dedicated staff,"
said Head of School Dr. Kristin Stewart. "After more than 15 years as a
trusted public education option for Ohio families, we remain committed
to supporting every student's academic and personal success."

The school combines innovative technology with a rigorous curriculum led
by Ohio-certified teachers. Students take a full course load across the
core subjects of math, science, language arts, history, art, music and
physical education, as well as a variety of electives, honors and
Advanced Placement® courses at the high school level.

In addition to the core courses, OHVA middle and high school students
have the opportunity to take Career Technical Education (CTE) courses
through the school's Destinations
. According to a recent survey
by K12 Inc. and Edge Research, three out of four parents say middle and
high school is the best time for students to start exploring career
paths. Through OHVA's Destinations pathways, students are introduced to
specialty trade skills through online courses in the fields of business
and information technology. Students can choose to go on to take
examinations for industry-recognized credentials, and gain an
introduction to future career opportunities.

Students wishing to get a head start on earning college credits can take
advantage of the Ohio College Credit Plus program, which offers eligible
students the opportunity to enroll in college courses while still in
high school. According
to the College Board
, the average cost of tuition and fees at
private colleges in 2017-2018 was nearly $35,000. Completing college
courses before high school graduation can potentially deliver cost
savings for students and families before they begin full-time enrollment
in higher education.

Throughout the school year, OHVA builds a sense of community through
in-person field trips, community service opportunities and social
outings. Students connect with their peers through virtual clubs around
shared interests, as well as through national organizations such as
National Honors Society and Girl Scouts. Graduating seniors are
celebrated at an in-person commencement ceremony each spring.

OHVA is accepting applications for enrollment for the 2018-2019 school
year. Families are encouraged to attend an online or in-person
information session hosted by the school. To learn more about enrollment
and for a schedule of upcoming events, visit,
