ARLINGTON, Va., July 31, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Hobsons, the education technology leader and company behind Starfish, yesterday attended the ACE Convening on Community College Student Success and Completion, hosted by the American Council on Education (ACE). The convening, sponsored by Hobsons, brought together leaders in community college research from across the country to discuss barriers to student success.

The goal of the convening was to discuss strategies to increase community college completion rates, consider areas in need of further research, and explore ways to best serve community college leaders and practitioners through research.

"Hobsons is proud to have participated in the ACE Convening on Community College Student Success and Completion," said Howard Bell, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Starfish by Hobsons. "Community Colleges play a vital role in increasing access to higher education. We are dedicated to continually improving our solutions to best serve the nearly 200 community college partners using our platform as part of our Starfish community, and believe this conversation is a critical part of that effort."

"ACE is committed to promoting policies and practices that support student access and success," said Jonathan Turk, Associate Director of ACE's Center for Policy Research and Strategy. "One aspect of this commitment is ensuring the success of students who enroll at one of the nation's community colleges. This convening was a chance to bring together a diverse group of experts to help us better translate current community college student success research to practice."

In partnership with Hobsons, ACE's Center for Policy and Research and Strategy (CPRS), which pursues thought leadership at the intersection of public policy and institutional strategy, has released three research briefs as part of a four-part series over the past 2 years. The research briefs examine the educational journeys of high school graduates who enroll in community college directly after high school. The research project analyzes data from the Education Longitudinal Study of 2002 (ELS), a nationally representative study of students who began 10th grade in 2002 and were tracked over a 10-year period.

The research briefs can be accessed below. The fourth brief is anticipated to be released in Fall 2018.
