LUNENBURG, NS, July 27, 2018 /CNW/ - Today, Bernadette Jordan, Member of Parliament (South Shore–St. Margaret's), announced that the Government of Canada is investing $30,000 in the Boxwood Festival. Ms. Jordan made the announcement on behalf of the Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism.

The Boxwood Festival features around 90 traditional music performances and workshops in 11 venues by professional and emerging artists from across Canada and abroad. The festival features a diverse blend of folk, Acadian, Québécois, Gaelic, Métis, Cuban, classical Indian, Irish and Scottish music. The weeklong event also includes educational workshops for seniors, adults, teens and children that explore folk traditions and baroque music.

The investment, spanning three years, is being made under the Canada Arts Presentation Fund (CAPF). Each year, the CAPF supports approximately 650 professional arts festivals and performing arts series, as well as other activities related to art presentations, in more than 250 cities or communities across Canada.

—The Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism

"In addition to attracting some of the world's best traditional music performers, the Boxwood Festival also allows music fans and children to participate in various interactive workshops. This event is a source of great pride in our community and a great way to celebrate our culture and heritage."

—Bernadette Jordan, Member of Parliament (South Shore–St. Margaret's)

"The Boxwood Festival Society is pleased to announce a multi-year grant from Heritage Canada. This pledge of support enables us to continue our work presenting, sharing and strengthening the roots and branches of Maritime Canada's musical traditions with a holistic approach integrating traditional music, dance, language and crafts via public concerts, events and outreach programs for children, teens and adults."

—Chris Norman, Director, Boxwood Festival Society
