NEW YORK, July 25, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, July 25th, the restaurant Cardoncello DiVino opens its doors in the emerging food district of NoMad at 43 W 27th Street. From the cocktail to the dessert, the Cardoncello mushroom will be the star of the menu, alongside other traditional Italian ingredients. A culinary journey celebrating, among other things, the origins and history of the Cardoncello and its unmistakable flavor.

The concept behind Cardoncello DiVino is to experience traditional dining in unique décor perfectly embodying the long-standing tradition of Italian hospitality, offering the best of Italy's culinary tradition while satisfying New York's need for new flavors thanks to the introduction of the Cardoncello mushroom in the City's restaurant panorama.

The Cardoncello -pride of the agricultural tradition of Southern Italy- has been praised by ancient poets, appreciated since the Middle Ages by the most elegant palates, and glorified by every major culinary master around the world.

Legend has it that it was ancient Latin poet Horace to first praise the Cardoncello's flavor. After tasting this unique mushroom, he was spellbound by its flavor and said: "This mushroom is so fleshy, so compact, so flavorful! It must certainly be the Gods' food!" In the following centuries, the "Gods' food" attracted the wrath of the Holy See, banning its consumption because it was commonly thought that the Cardoncello would encourage sins of the flesh.

Centuries later, thanks to its unmistakable aroma and texture, similar to that of meat, the "myth" of the Cardoncello was revived and today is kept alive by the mastery of the best Chefs worldwide.

Of course, those not particularly keen on mushrooms will still be able to enjoy a unique authentic Italian experience offered by the Restaurant's seasonal menu and its over 150 wine labels.

Cardoncello DiVino, located at 43 W 27th Street, opens today.
