How a busy Vancouver mom is giving away time and increasing happiness

Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'."

Thanks to Vancouver entrepreneur and busy mom Catherine Goulet, your life needn't be sink or swim. Her latest creation zenGOT.com affords users access to on-demand home services with trusted, qualified and affordable home service providers ("zenGivers" as zenGOT calls them).

"It's true. Times have changed," Catherine says. "The downside is there is so much more to do to simply get by in life. I'm part of the 'sandwich generation' juggling work and home commitments. Like many others, I have children and elders that need help in dealing with all that modern life throws at them."

Listening to Catherine, you hear an energetic, dynamic entrepreneur who makes things happen. What you might not see right away is what underpins her drive. Last year Catherine found herself in need of help. The day after her ailing father-in-law passed away, her husband Mike was diagnosed with cancer. With two teenage boys, a special-needs daughter and a mother-in-law who needed more support than ever, Catherine knew exactly how it felt to be sinking like a stone with life pressures.

"I was feeling pressured and time crunched. And I knew I wasn't alone," says Catherine. "Accessing help around the home was a saving grace. Before Mike was diagnosed, I was building zenGOT's business model. Living through Mike's diagnosis and treatment created an even greater sense of urgency to help busy people including those dealing with unexpected life circumstances. I was even more driven to launch zenGOT."

Catherine happily added, "I'm thrilled to report that Mike is completely healthy now. I'm just so happy that zenGOT can help others in similar situations."

zenGOT offers a range of on-demand home services including: cleaning, yard work, handy person work, errand running, pet services, organizing, general assistance and more. It's part of the growing "sharing economy" using a business model like Airbnb and Uber and online payments.

"I just couldn't stand by and watch friends, loved ones and even myself struggle to keep up with the demands."

Catherine's sentiments echo a 2015 Guardian headline that read, "Time, not money is the 21st century's most precious commodity." In fact, many people are experiencing what scientists call a "time famine". She continues, "Knowing what a difference some extra support can make, I decided to give each customer their first service for free. Essentially, we're giving away time."

"Through my other businesses, I also frequently heard from many people how they wanted to start their own business. zenGOT affords independent service providers access to jobs based on their availability and location. So far, we've launched in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton, have started onboarding zenGivers in Ottawa, Winnipeg, Hamilton, Brampton, Mississauga and British Columbia's Sunshine Coast - and we have plans to grow far and wide."

"Instead of starving for time, why not feast on zenGOT's easy access to service providers, a range of services and the joy that comes from more free time?" says Catherine. "Ultimately, we offer 'Helping Hands, On-Demand.' to support you in being happier. Now that's a worthwhile change of the times if you ask me!"

zenGOT is an easy to use, online platform that matches customers who order on-demand home services with trusted, qualified and affordable service providers (zenGivers).
