A total of 4,357 passenger cars and SUVs were delivered, representing a 7.5% increase over 2017. This growth was fueled by the luxury light truck segment, which experienced monthly sales of 2,270 (+18.2%), bringing year-to-date sales to 10,184 units, up 18.9% over the same time last year. As in previous months, these results were supported by the popular GLE SUV and Coupe, which saw an increase of 32.6% compared to May 2017 and 41.4% year-to-date. Other strong performers included the E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet, which were up exponentially versus the same period last year.

The Mercedes-Benz Vans division also reported a record-setting May, with 636 units retailed for a 36.5% increase compared to May 2017. This monthly result was bolstered by strong sales of the Sprinter and Sprinter Cab Chassis, which saw growth of 48.0% and 1,000.0% respectively compared to the same time last year. Year-to-date, 2,809 vans have been sold (+6.1%).

38 smart fortwo vehicles were delivered in May.

The Mercedes-Benz Pre-Owned division recorded its best-ever May as well, with 1,720 units sold, up 2.7% compared with May 2017. This result was supported by 1,373 Certified Pre-Owned sales for the month while 5,655 units have been retailed so far in 2018.

"While this was our best May ever, we missed beating our overall monthly record sales by only a few units in both our Passenger cars and Light truck sales and in our Vans division," said Brian D. Fulton, President and CEO, Mercedes-Benz Canada. "This will only encourage our dealer network to top these numbers in June! As I look back at our first five months, I am pleased to see how steadily our sales have increased in line with the industry seasonality and our availability of inventory. With the newly launched Summer Sales Event, our customers have now even more reasons than ever to visit their local dealerships to take advantage of our outstanding products and offers."
