Scalr Expands Multi-Cloud Cost Management Capabilities with 360-Degree Visibility and Automated Remediation

Organization-Level Policy Enforcement Lets Business Units Safely Self-Service while Preventing Runaway Costs, Compliance Problems and Security Risks

(PRWEB) June 06, 2018

Scalr, a global pioneer in complex hybrid cloud management, announced it is extending its Hybrid Cloud Management Platform with advanced visibility and budgeting for infrastructure and services not under Scalr management. With these enhancements and the company's unique organization-level policy enforcement, Scalr Hybrid Cloud Management Platform becomes the only CMP that provides a unified view, actionable and automated rightsizing, and cost predictability for entire multi-cloud environments at enterprise scale. Business users can safely consume cloud workloads at self-service without putting budgets, security or compliance at risk, while the channel community gains more advanced tools for supporting customers in their cloud transformation journeys.

"As multi-cloud proliferates, it's becoming increasingly hard to manage costs. The methods commonly used in smaller-scale environments, like approaching cost control as an isolated challenge and relying on tagging and application-level policies, can't work in large enterprises where applications move from cloud to cloud and the people responsible for them change," said Sebastian Stadil, Scalr's CEO and Founder. "Instead, Scalr bakes cost control into overall hybrid cloud management, maps policies to an organization's hierarchy and logically groups applications into projects that are associated with budgets. This gives business units, departments and teams the freedom to be productive while assuring central IT that cost, security and compliance are taken care of."

In working with enterprise finance departments, Scalr found that companies who don't tie cost control into overall cloud management and who use tagging as the basis for cost control, have considerable problems enforcing budgets and policies. Thus, it's not surprising that, according to Gartner, 80% of organizations will overshoot their cloud IaaS budgets through 2020 due to a lack of cost optimization approaches.1

●    Tagging can only be successful if IT ensures all tags are perfect, all of the time. This is nearly impossible as resources span multiple private and public cloud platforms and dispersed groups. By using project-based cost allocation and reporting, Scalr eliminates the need to rely on tags and gives finance teams flexibility when creating, assigning and moving budgets around, enabling them to adapt to changes without losing context.

●    Scalr Hybrid Cloud Management Platform is the only CMP that enforces preventative and reactive policies at the organization level, not the application level. This means IT and Finance can give business units and departments the freedom to establish their own guardrails, while ensuring they're always operating within corporate policies and budgetary parameters. This unique approach to cloud management bridges the gap between central IT and business units that was created when developers outside of central IT went ‘rouge' with public cloud.

According to Gartner, "As an organization grows in its use of public cloud infrastructure as a service (IaaS), its ability to monitor, manage and optimize those resources in a cost-effective manner often fails to keep pace. Although cloud invoices can be millions of lines long and most organizations leverage multiple clouds, business leaders must track cloud-related spending transparently and accurately to achieve optimal business value from a minimum spend."2

Large enterprises have been using Scalr to reduce cloud costs, ensure bills are predictable, and gain financial visibility for years. With the new capabilities, Scalr is expanding these cost management capabilities even further:
●    360-Degree Visibility - Single pane of glass over all objects and services, including those that are, and are not, provisioned by Scalr CMP.
●    Reserved Instance (RI) Management and Recommendations – Reserved instances can offer significant cost savings over standard instance types. Scalr provides RI recommendations based on usage trends, and in the context of customer's organization and applications, for more effective decision-making.
●    Rightsizing Recommendations and Execution – Scalr goes beyond just making suggestions to enable users to easily rightsize any and all workloads from within the CMP. Remediation can be automated or IT can choose to be alerted to recommendations that they can approve before enacting.
●    Cloud Inventory – Goal-oriented reports about cloud usage for identifying trends and tracking how the organization is using multi-cloud.

Channel Advantages
These significantly expanded cost management capabilities have been highly anticipated not only by Scalr's enterprise customers, but also by its growing group of channel partners. "The channel community is urgently looking for smart ways to help businesses transition to, and succeed in, the cloud. We're excited to offer a range of new cost-related capabilities to our partners so they can further support customers with cloud transformation projects," said Brett Johnson, VP Sales, Scalr. "Our partners can use Scalr software to easily deliver straightforward cloud assessments for their customers, with a breakdown of current spend and opportunities for savings, and then leverage the full Scalr CMP to provide end-to-end cloud management."
